Jason Turner, LCSW

Jason is a Licensed Certified Social Worker in the state of Arkansas who began his career in mental health in 2001. Through varied experiences of working with individuals and families, Jason developed a passion for partnering with them as they worked to achieve their goals.
Jason graduated from Williams Baptist College (University) in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2008 with a master's in social work. Jason has worked in supervisory, quality assurance, and direct practice roles, and has experience treating those affected by trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.

To meet the unique needs of clients, Jason utilizes a variety of approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) in a therapeutic climate that facilitates growth and healing.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) uses the concept of a reasonable, emotional, and wise mind to describe a person's thoughts and behaviors. The reasonable mind is driven by logic, the emotional mind is driven by feelings, and wise mind is a middle-ground between the two.

DBT is one of many therapy types we offer at Retrospect Counseling, PLLC.

Today we are sharing a quote from Bessel A. van der Kolk included in the book, “The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma”.

Here is some more information from the author about a highly sought out treatment method we use at Retrospect Counseling, PLLC. All of our staff our trained in EMDR:

✴️ EMDR loosens up something in the mind/brain that gives people rapid access to loosely associated memories and images from their past. This seems to help them put the traumatic experience into a larger context or perspective.

✴️ People may be able to heal from trauma without talking about it. EMDR enables them to observe their experiences in a new way, without verbal give-and-take with another person.

✴️ EMDR can help even if the patient and the therapist do not have a trusting relationship. This was particularly intriguing because trauma, understandably, rarely leaves people with an open, trusting heart.

Help us welcome Amy Baker to the team! 💙

Amy is a wonderful therapist. She has worked with clients and developed her unique skillset over the course of many years. We are so excited she has made the decision to bring that skillset and her bright personality to our Jonesboro office. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on board.

Amy Baker is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Arkansas. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2008 with her Master of Science in Social Work degree and received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Arkansas State University prior to that. Amy also has a degree in Occupational Therapy and was previously dually licensed in these fields. She has been a licensed therapist for over 15 years working directly with individuals and families in multiple settings and also held a position in quality assurance for many years.

Amy utilizes a variety of approaches in therapy to meet the specific needs of each individual she serves including traditional psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). She strives to provide an atmosphere that creates comfort, growth, insight, empowerment, and healing. Amy will also be acquiring extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to expand her skill set in providing evidence-based practice.

Implementing these techniques to enhance treatment efficiency, Amy specializes in treating children, adolescents, teens, and adults that endure hardships from anxiety, depression, and behavioral disorders.

Retrospect Counseling, PLLC will be closed Monday, May 29th in observation of Memorial Day. We are fortunate enough to have 2 veterans as therapists. Thank you to all who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for our wonderful country. Happy Memorial Day weekend!

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), as with most therapy approaches, focuses on the individual's present concerns. The EMDR approach believes past emotionally-charged experiences are overly influencing your present emotions, sensations, and thoughts about yourself.
