Noticing the winter blues lingering a little longer than you’d like? 🌥️

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows seasonal patterns, often impacting mood, energy, sleep, and motivation. As February comes to a close and Daylight Saving Time approaches, longer, brighter days are ahead — something to hold onto and look forward to ☀️

If this season has felt heavy, you don’t have to navigate it alone 💛 If you’d like more information or feel you may be struggling with SAD, we’re here to help.

For the last week of , we honor Inez Beverly Prosser, Ph.D.

"Inez Beverly Prosser is considered to be the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in psychology. Her dissertation, “The Non-Academic Development of Negro Children in Mixed and Segregated Schools," evaluated the effects of racial inequality and racism on the development of Black children's identity and mental health. Her research and arguments helped lead some of the first discussions about desegregating American schools."

Continuing our series honoring African American pioneers in mental health, this week we shine a light on Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller.

Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller was a pioneering African American psychiatrist who made significant contributions to the study of Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Liberia, the son of a previously enslaved African who had purchased his freedom and emigrated there. He graduated from Boston University School of Medicine, which as a homeopathic institution, was open to both African American and women students.

He spent most of his career practicing at Westborough State Mental Hospital in Westborough, Massachusetts.

While there, he performed his groundbreaking research on the physical changes to the brains of Alzheimer's patients. Dr. Fuller was one of the first known Black psychiatrists and worked alongside Dr. Alois Alzheimer, who first discovered the traits of Alzheimer's disease in 1901.

✨ Courage with Athena ✨

Hi frens 🐾 It’s me, Athena — ur courajous gurl reminding u that asking for help is BIG brave energy. German shepherds are known for courage… but guess what? So are hoomans who take the first step toward healing. 💪🎀

If ur heart feels heavy, u don’t gotta carry it alone. Therapy = safe place, soft landings, and lots of growin’. 🛋️🌱

Be gentle with urself today. Maybe take the step. Maybe just sit with the idea. Either way, I’m proud of u.

Loves,
Athena

You deserve a seat at tables where you feel valued. ✨🍽️💛

Boundaries aren’t about pushing people away — they’re about protecting your peace, your worth, and your healing. If respect isn’t being served, it’s okay to stand up, take a breath, and walk toward spaces that feel safe and supportive.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is quietly choose yourself. 🤍

In honor of , we are celebrating by sharing about pioneers in the field of mental health every week in the month of February.

Today we celebrate the contributions of Mamie and Kenneth Clark.

Drs. Kenneth Clark and Mamie Phipps Clark were gifted social psychologists and pioneers in their field. The Clarks' work through the famous "Doll Study" experiment was crucial in the case of Brown v Board of Education.

Their findings concluded segregation was psychologically damaging to pre-school aged children, which played a role in the Supreme Court decision in finally outlawing segregation. Kenneth Clark went on to become the first black president of the American Psychological Association in 1966 while Mamie Clark continued her trailblazing work studying and exposing internal racism and its negative effects on child development.
