Did you know that you can search for Civil War Soldiers in the National Park’s Civil War Soldier Database. I found my great great grandfather’s (Calvin W Smith I) unit and a summary of the unit’s service. Mom found some treasures in my grandma Vera Johnston’s jewelry box. There were three pins.

We thought they were all grandma’s, but a little digging has us thinking another way….

One was grandma’s “president” pin for a women’s club - GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs).

The other two are probably my Uncle Roger’s Sigma Nu membership pins.

I found that the MSSU chapter of SN was chartered in 1971. It was the Iota Epsilon chapter. The back of the pin is engraved with IE 171 SPB.

Next task is to call the archives at the MSSU library and see if Roger Johnston is member 171 or the IE chapter of SN at MSSC. ❤

And these are the things that keep me up at night!
