Freeman Health Nephrology and Dialysis Center is hosting its annual two-day Patient Engagement Days and Gentiva Hospice -Joplin is happy to be a part of the line-up. According to Freeman, the purpose of these two days is to educate, inform, and celebrate Freeman dialysis patients.

Robert S. Thurman American Legion Post #13 hosted a Veterans benefit expo on Thursday. The event represented ongoing efforts to ensure Veterans are aware of and can readily access a full range of services and benefits available to them within their community. It was a day filled with stories and memories, good information and meaningful connections.

Michele Fraley, HCC and Marci Stoebel, VC with Gentiva Hospice-Joplin shared information and resources alongside several other agencies to our community's Veterans and their families.

The timing of the expo coincided with the 9/11 remembrance period; beginning with a ceremony held at the armory's flagpole honoring those lost in the September 11, 2001, attacks. That day, the world stood still — and we stood together.

"Hospice is for every heart in the room!" This week, the Volunteer Coordinators from Gentiva-Joplin and Gentiva-Jefferson City joined forces. Working together to bring opportunities and lend support to our ever-growing volunteer teams.

The services our volunteers provide to our patients are truly beautiful. Our volunteers lend support through companionship, listening, sharing stories, playing games, reading, or simply being present. They also lend support to our branches and teams by lending a hand in the office and at community events. The gift of time our volunteers provide is priceless.

Volunteering isn't just about giving our time -- it's about creating lasting connections, finding purpose, and being part of something bigger than ourselves!

We celebrated the precious patients who've passed within the last year, during our annual memorial. It was a special time to gather with their family and friends, and share memories. We enjoyed reminiscing and hearing so many wonderful stories. Thanks to all the loved ones who joined us, and all who helped make the afternoon so special and to Father Brian Straus for hosting us at beautiful Saint Peter's... it was a great afternoon, indeed!

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near.. still loved, still missed and very dear.

Gentiva Hospice-Joplin's Volunteer Michael is a great example of this. He is readily available to lend a listening ear or swap stories with our sweet patients.

Recently, he teamed up with VC, Marci and RN, Shannon to lend honor to one of our beloved Veteran patients. Celebrating our Veteran's service is truly one of the most memorable moments, for all involved.

Solace House of the Ozarks treated the Gentiva Hospice-Joplin team to a wonderful afternoon! Our team visited the house in waves, along with some of our amazing volunteers! It was a great opportunity to connect with our friends at Solace House and reconnect with one another, all while enjoying the serenity of the house, the gorgeous grounds, and a beautiful meal! A home filled with loving-kindness for those at life’s end, and a haven of support for caregivers. Solace House offers wonderful resources, and we are so thankful they are one of our community partners!
