If you know me... AT ALL... you know I’ve had some pretty intense storm anxiety in the past. The fact that I’m making this post instead of frantically prepping for the end of the world shows just how far I’ve come. 😜
But seriously—if storms have you feeling on edge today, you’re not alone. Here are some things that have helped me:
✨ Breathe Through It: Try the 4-7-8 method—inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8. It really helps calm those racing thoughts.
✨ Create a Cozy Zone: Grab a soft blanket, put on some calming music, and surround yourself with things that feel safe and comforting.
✨ Limit Your Storm Updates: Staying informed is good, but obsessively checking the weather? Not so much. Check in periodically but set a timer so you’re not glued to the news.
✨ Reach Out: Text a friend, hang out with a pet, or even just talk through your feelings out loud. It’s amazing how much lighter we can feel when we share what’s on our minds.
✨ Remind Yourself: Most storms pass without causing harm. Repeat grounding phrases like, “I am safe,” or “This will pass.” It might sound simple, but it helps.
✨Make a plan, but don’t obsess over it. Know where you will go if weather turns severe. Maybe even pack a small bag if you are worried about having things like medication or chargers. Feeling that you have some control can be helpful…but again…make the plan and then trust it.
If you’re feeling anxious right now, take a deep breath. You’re not alone in this, and it WILL pass. 💛
