❄️🚫 STAY OFF THE ICE 🚫❄️
As we experience warmer days, the ice on ponds and rivers becomes weaker and far more unpredictable. What looks solid can give way without warning—putting you at serious risk of falling through.
If you see someone fall through the ice, do NOT attempt a rescue yourself.
Call 9 1 1 immediately or go get help. Emergency responders have the training and equipment to perform ice rescues safely.
Please keep yourself, your kids, and your pets off the ice.
Don’t play on ice. Stay off the ice

The roads will be difficult to traverse in some form or fashion and likely hard to keep up with maintaining. Stay home and warm if at all possible and remember to drip water, feed the animals, tend to your plants, and check on loved ones by phone! The next four days, resources will be stretched. Stay safe!!

Dangerous cold temperatures move in across the area this weekend with wind chills getting as low as -15 to -20 degrees. Please dress appropriately for the cold and bring outdoor pets inside!

Friendly reminder,

Bitterly cold temperatures will likely have some folks turning to space heaters for a little extra heat or to keep animals warm. Whether they are electric or gas, space heaters can pose a fire and health hazard.

Don’t let the misuse of a space heater cause an avoidable incident. And no matter what, always ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Stay Warm, Stay Safe

The current focus is on the upcoming winter storm. Winds will intensify this evening, and humidity will stay very low until the snow begins. If you burned today, make sure it is completely extinguished before turning in for the night.

This is Community Risk Reduction Week, a national effort to eliminate simple risks that lead to fires. Did you know that across the U.S. a home fire is reported every 96 seconds? That a fire death occurs every three hours on average? We want Missourians to eliminate the unforced errors that lead to fires - an unwatched pan on the stove, a worn electrical cord under a rug, a space heater too close to a curtain. Please think about fire safety every week, not just this week!
