Gifting yoga is like offering someone a pause in the middle of a noisy world… a chance to breathe, move, and listen to the quiet places they’ve been too busy to visit.

It’s a reminder that peace isn’t found in perfection or productivity, but in presence.

When we give experiences, we’re really giving connection. Connection to our bodies, our breath, our spirit, and to each other.

We’re giving moments that linger, lessons that unfold slowly, and a kind of nourishment that doesn’t fade when the decorations come down.

This year, give a gift that feels like an exhale. Gifts that guide your friends and family home. ✨🌿💗

On November 27th all of our regularly scheduled classes will be cancelled, but we have two separate offerings happening @ 9am with Bev Ingram at our downtown location and Cassandra Jostes at our Auke Bay location.

Food donations are encouraged but not required to attend.

These classes will celebrate gratitude & community, and the power of giving back. This heart centered practice will invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reflect on all that you’re grateful for while helping to support those in need right here in our community.

These classes are for all levels, we encourage you to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. Your contributions will help nourish local families during the holiday season.

Come move, breathe, and give thanks together, a beautiful way to honor the spirit of the season through generosity and connection.

Limited space remaining in both classes, so make sure to reserve your spot today! ✨

Why is decluttering one of the best feelings in the world? The act of pairing down and simplifying our life and options feels like a weight lifted off our shoulders, and allows us to fully exhale.

We have been sold the narrative of MORE our whole lives. And the Holiday season feeds on this narrative- We need to buy more stuff, we need to buy our friends and families more stuff, everyone needs MORE!

But here’s the truth- your loved one likely doesn’t need or want another candle, mug or blanket. I am willing to bet that their (and your) cupboards are already overflowing. Rather than buying more stuff just for the ritual of it- we invite you to reexamine.

This year, we’re choosing experiences over things (presence over presents)

No more clutter. No more “stuff.”
Just stillness, movement, and meaningful moments shared in community.

That’s what your yoga practice gives you every time you return to the mat. Some days it’s the gift of strength. Others, it’s the softness of rest.

Today’s teacher introduction is Jodi Pirtle. Your Monday night 5:30pm Sukha Flow & 7pm Unwind and restore teacher at ABY, and 5:30pm Roll & Restore teacher at RFY on Friday nights!

Jodi will also be doing an Unwind and Restore winter series this season. The workshop will feature a variety of restorative yoga techniques designed to release physiological stress through the process of active recovery. We will work with classic Restorative and Yin postures supported by props, myofascial release and acupressure with yoga tune-up balls, breathing exercises, and meditation options. The session will conclude with a guided Yoga Nidra practice, a form of non-sleep deep relaxation. As a result, we will have a beneficial impact on our health and overall well-being.

Class formats Taught:
“I primarily offer Vinyasa (Flow), Restorative, and Yin classes. Within these foundational formats students have the opportunity to explore additional therapeutic methods such as myofascial release, acupressure, breathing skills, and meditation.”

Core values:
“Wisdom, Integrity, Inclusion, Education, Leadership”

Why do you teach yoga?
“These practices work. My approach to teaching is grounded in personal experience of the Practice improving physical and mental health and overall well-being. As a scientist, I love exploring the nexus of traditional yoga wisdom and knowledge gained through modern research. My classes are a container to educate and empower the student to develop their own experiential wisdom of the Practice. In creating community around these experiences, the benefits are far-reaching.”

How do you want students to feel after class?
“Simply put, I want you to feel “great” after class. Going deeper, I want the benefits of your Practice to affect you long after you step off the mat and in your day to day life.”

We want you to know here at ABY, we see you and we support you and are ready to, as skillfully as possible, flex our muscles of collective care.

When things become challenging in our personal lives, the tendency is to put your yoga practice on the back burner while sorting it out.

But the truth is, your yoga practice is a means to process and metabolize complex emotions, trauma and change. That is what makes yoga so healing. It is not simply about movement. Yoga includes movement to feel into your body, connect to deeper truths and knowledge and attune to the sacred communication of your heart. Embodiment, nervous system intelligence, stress management tools and breath are the medicines we all need to navigate change in the most skillful way.

These are the tools that our incredible teaching team is dedicated to providing every single day at our two studios.

With so much external chaos happening all around is important to us that no one is turned away from practicing yoga at this time, because the truth is, we need yoga now more than ever!

If you are or were a federal employee, use the discount code “FEDLOVE” for up to 5 free classes at either location. If you are not a federal employee but are in need of assistance, reach out to ABY so we can see how to support you.

Community is a powerful antidote to what works to deprioritize our wholeness and humanity.

Community is medicine.

Community is life.

Community is a resource.

Community is generative.

Community is who we are.

In a time of uncertainty, what we do know is that how we show up to care for ourselves and others is one thing that is always in our control.

Our beloved teacher Summer Christiansen has officially moved to Canada to reunite with her family! After months of patiently waiting for her visa to clear, she’s finally able to begin this beautiful new chapter alongside her partner and daughter as they settle into their new life there.

While we’re so sad to see her go, we’re equally thrilled for all the adventures and growth that await her. Summer’s light has been such a gift to our community and this isn’t goodbye forever! She plans to visit Juneau semi-regularly and will pop in to sub when she’s in town.

Let’s all send her so much love as she begins this next journey. 🇨🇦✨

November is here, and as familiar seasonal changes start to really take shape, we are reminded of the tools yoga gives us to provide and give light from the insight out. November invites us to nurture the flame within: to expand our inner light even as the days grow shorter and the air turns chilly.

This is a month for tending to the things that light a spark within us- our joy, our gratitude, our practice, and our community. And as we tend to this inner spark, something becomes clear:
Illumination isn’t only found in sunlight, but in presence, kindness, and connection.

Here’s a peek into what’s happening this month. ✨

Step into a space of deep rest and renewal tomorrow 4:00pm-5:30pm with Kristin Mabry.

Tomorrow’s immersive sound healing experience invites you to slow down, release stress, and reconnect with your inner calm.

Guided by soothing instruments such as crystal singing bowls, gongs, and chimes, the vibrations encourage the body to relax, the mind to quiet, and the nervous system to restore balance.

No prior experience is needed—simply come as you are. Whether you’re seeking stress relief, deeper meditation, or a nourishing reset, this workshop offers a gentle landing place for your whole being.

Bring a yoga mat, blanket, or anything else that will help you feel comfortable lying down and receiving.

How many of you have felt tightness in your hips after a long day of sitting, walking, or practicing?

Or wondered why certain shapes like Warrior II, Pigeon, or Chair feel accessible one day and impossible the next?

Even though our bodies are built to move freely, the hips tend to hold onto things like tension, habits, and imbalance. They’re the literal and energetic bridge between our upper and lower body. Our hips are the center of gravity that affects everything from posture to balance to lower-back health.

When we move with awareness and alignment, the hips become a powerful source of stability, mobility, and strength. When we don’t, they can be the root of discomfort, strain, or even injury.

The good news? Your body already has the wisdom to restore harmony, it just needs the right understanding and attention.

That’s exactly what our upcoming workshop is all about.

Powerful Poses: Connecting hip anatomy and biomechanics to your yoga practice. Sunday November 2nd at 4:30pm at our Auke Bay location.

Level up your practice or teaching in this 90-minute alignment fundamentals workshop with Dr. Sarah Stekoll! You’ll deepen your understanding of hip anatomy and learn how intelligent alignment supports both mobility and stability in every pose.

Whether you’re a student looking to move with more ease and confidence or a teacher refining your cues, this workshop will equip you with tools to move smarter, stronger, and injury-free.

You’ll explore:
• Bony structure of the pelvis and femur
• Ligamentous design
• Muscular function
• Applied alignment

In so many cases, hip discomfort or imbalance comes from repeated patterns we don’t even notice. This workshop offers a chance to slow down, tune in, and build awareness that carries far beyond your mat. I will carry into how you walk, stand, and live in your body every day.

Because when you understand the why behind movement, every pose becomes an opportunity for healing and growth.
