Heat or cold which is better post injury? The answer is it depends. For acute injury, (within 3-5 days of the injury) ice it. Chronic injuries (+2 weeks) often do better with heat. This is because cold slows blood flow and heat increases blood flow. In the acute stages sometimes it’s better to slow things down and the numbing effect ice has on the body helps alleviate pain. As healing progresses heat often helps. In this case buckwheat went for a few long runs and decided that a hot spring was the ticket to help him heal. It’s so easy this time of year to overbook ourselves—work, travel, family, projects, even the fun stuff can pile up and leave us feeling overstimulated and exhausted. Taking a real break—no agenda, no schedule, no phone service—can be exactly what your mind and body need.
