Heat or cold which is better post injury? The answer is it depends. For acute injury, (within 3-5 days of the injury) ice it. Chronic injuries (+2 weeks) often do better with heat. This is because cold slows blood flow and heat increases blood flow. In the acute stages sometimes it’s better to slow things down and the numbing effect ice has on the body helps alleviate pain. As healing progresses heat often helps. In this case buckwheat went for a few long runs and decided that a hot spring was the ticket to help him heal. Reach out if you have questions about this topic!
