**JAMHI OFFICES ARE CLOSED ON MONDAY FEBRUARY 16TH IN OBSERVANCE OF ELIZABETH PERATROVICH DAY.**
Ḵaax̲gal.aat, also known as Elizabeth Peratrovich, is celebrated for her intolerance of discrimination against and advocacy of Alaska Native people.
Originally established on April 21st, Elizabeth Peratrovich Day was moved to February 16th to commemorate the day that Alaska's Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945 was passed. Peratrovich was credited with being instrumental in that legislation passing (the first in the United States passed by a state or territory).
