Holiday travel is exciting, but when you’re managing lymphedema or swelling, having a plan makes all the difference. Here are therapist-approved tips to help support lymphatic flow and keep swelling manageable while you’re on the go:
🌟 Pack Smart & Dress Comfortably
• Wear your prescribed compression garments.
• Choose soft, breathable, non-restrictive clothing (avoid tight belts or wired undergarments).
🌀 Gentle Movement While Seated
• Begin with deep, slow belly breaths (10 reps).
• Lightly stretch the skin at your neck upward toward the headrest, then downward toward your collarbone. Add shoulder rolls, shrugs, and side bends.
• Try armpit pumps, seated marches, and 10–15 ankle pumps and circles.
🚶♀️ Move When You Can
• Take brief walking breaks whenever possible. at rest stops, airport terminals, or even down the plane aisle.
💧 Prioritize Hydration
• Drinking plenty of water supports lymphatic flow and helps reduce congestion.
🍎 Choose Nourishing Snacks
• Skip salty, high-sodium fast food that can worsen swelling. Pack simple, healthy snacks you enjoy.
