Prospective population based Rotterdam Study evaluated the lifetime risk on dementia, stroke, and parkinsonism in residents from 1990 to 2016. 12,102 individuals followed who were disease free from 45 years in age or over for up to 26 years. Women were at an increased risk to develop one of these diseases, 48.2% risk in women to develop one of these diseases compared to 36.2% risk in men. Dementia risk was 2x higher in women Stroke and Parkinsonism risk was equal among men and women. If there is change in lifestyle 1-3 years prior to the onset, one can decrease risk 20-50%.
