Dr. Ricardo Mejia is one of the only M.D.’s that is fellowship trained in hair transplantation, board certified in Dermatology and Derma

tologic Surgery, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He is an experienced dermatologic surgeon whose primary goal is to produce world class hair restoration with proven consistent hair growth and hair yield. He is one of the only Medical Doctors to be featured in a 30 minute CNN Live Broadcast on hair loss and hair transplantation that was broadcast in the U.S. His emphasis is on ultra refined hair transplantation to provide quality results, undetectable hairlines and density in a single, one-pass session. He is one of few physicians certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and one of few who has completed an intensive fellowship in hair restoration surgery. He is published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and has served as faculty instructor at the Live Hair Transplant Surgery Workshops. He attends and speaks regularly at meetings for the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgeons. He is also the scalp dermatology columnists for the Physician Hair Forum publication. As we kick off Hair Loss Awareness Month this August, let’s start by understanding a key part of the hair loss process: miniaturization. This is when healthy, thick hair follicles gradually thin over time—commonly seen in androgenetic alopecia, which affects both men and women.

The good news? Treatments like minoxidil, finasteride, and other medical options can help slow—or even reverse—this process. 🔄

Dr. Mejia will be traveling to Tbilisi, Georgia this week and presenting on 3 different topics:

- ISHRS and Black Market
- Poor Surgical Planning
- Lichen Planopilaris and Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

As ISHRS 2024-2025 President, he is traveling all over the world meeting new hair transplant surgeons and many who are ISHRS members, with the goal of unifying the field which is his theme for his Presidency. Next up, Berlin for the World Congress!

In Dr. Mejia’s recent presentation at the AIME conference in Paris, he spoke about how to properly plan a hair transplant procedure. He also discussed ethical marketing so that patients are not deceived.

Unfortunately, there are black market clinics proliferating around the world, and unethical marketing tactics are used where patients might not even realize that a doctor will not be present in the surgery.

I recently had the privilege of attending and presenting as faculty, at the African Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Workhop in Egypt.

It which was hosted by my dear friend and colleague, Dr. Shady El Maghraby and organized in collaboration with the Arab Association of Hair Restoration, an ISHRS Global Council sister society. I have never been to Egypt and besides engaging with the fascinating cultures of different doctors who attended, I was able to see the amazing historical sites including the magical pyramids. Wow!! What an experience!!

It's going to be an exciting year as President of the ! Now I am off to Costa Rica to present at another meeting.

Today is ISHRS 4th Annual World Hair Transplant Repair Day, where members of the ISHRS and an ISHRS Global Council Society assist patients who have been victims of hair transplants gone wrong from illicit clinics throughout the world.

Hair transplant surgery is an excellent procedure for treating hair loss when performed by qualified physicians. However, many clinics and unlicensed technicians operate illegally and fraudulently without proper knowledge or training, placing unaware patients at risk and jeopardizing patient outcomes.

As President of the ISHRS, I proudly support and participate in this campaign.
