Club 31 Champion of the Month: Kyla

Meet January's Club 31 Champion of the Month, Kyla. She brings an overwhelming sense of kindness and joy each day, always approaching her golf classes with a positive attitude and enthusiasm. Highly social, she remembers everyone's name and has even befriended several volunteers, showcasing significant growth in her social skills.

While she is very independent during golf activities, she actively seeks social interactions and seems to especially enjoy group and teamwork-related activities. Her confidence and independence continue to grow with each session.

Help us continue providing programs and services to clients like Kyla by becoming a monthly donor with Club 31. Your monthly donation of $31 provides consistent and reliable support, ensuring long-term sustainability for the organization and the clients we serve.

Els for Autism State of the Science Featured Article: Beyond Words: Overcoming Barriers to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for Autistic Individuals

Speech-language pathologists support autistic individuals by using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools to enhance communication, participation, and independence.

However, AAC use is often limited by barriers such as lack of knowledge, negative attitudes, financial and time constraints, and communication systems that are not customized to the user’s needs.

To overcome these challenges, it is essential to strengthen support for communication partners through improved training, increased awareness, and more positive attitudes toward AAC.

Els for Autism State of the Science Featured Article: Modernizing your cultural infrastructure through autism inclusion

Gen Z and Millennials, nearly half of the U.S. workforce, expect employers to build inclusive cultures, influencing where they choose to work and spend their money. With more than 5.4 million autistic adults in the U.S. and over 70,000 entering adulthood each year, autism inclusion represents both a growing workforce reality and a major business opportunity.

Companies should develop an inclusion plan with measurable goals, clear areas of focus, and actionable steps. Technology, including assistive tools and AI-supported communication, also plays an important role in helping autistic employees succeed.

Ultimately, an autism inclusive workforce is not only a social responsibility but a strategic investment that strengthens culture, expands talent, and supports long-term organizational growth.
