Bees Get Drunk? Bees Brings Alcohol Back to the Hive? A Lesson in Purity

Honey bees are amazing creatures known for their discipline, teamwork, and devotion to their hive. But what happens if a bee accidentally brings alcohol - like from wine, beer, or whiskey - back to the colony?

This question might surprise you, but science has studied it closely, and the answer is very insightful.

🍷 Can Bees Get Drunk on Alcohol?
Yes. If a honey bee drinks or collects alcohol (ethanol) from outside sources like spilled wine, beer, or whiskey, she can become intoxicated. This means she will:
Fly erratically and lose balance
Have trouble navigating back to the hive
Show impaired behavior, including a faulty waggle dance (their way of communicating food sources)
🛑 How Does the Hive React?
Bees have a natural “security system” at the hive entrance — the guard bees. They monitor every returning bee carefully:
If a bee behaves normally, she is allowed entry.
But if a bee shows signs of intoxication from alcohol, the guards will refuse to let her enter.
This prevents the bee from bringing harmful substances into the hive and protects the entire colony from contamination or disorder
She might be pushed, shoved, or physically blocked from going inside.
If she insists or behaves erratically, multiple guard bees may restrain or drag her away from the entrance.

🍯 What About Fermented or “Gone Bad” Honey?

It’s important to understand the difference:

Honey inside a healthy hive rarely ferments or produces alcohol because bees carefully regulate moisture and conditions.

Fermentation (which produces alcohol) can happen only if honey is stored improperly or exposed to moisture and yeast for a long time — which is uncommon inside the hive.

Bees do not naturally consume alcohol in their honey, and intoxication comes only from external alcohol sources like wine or beer.
🌸 Bees Prefer Pure Nectar — No Alcohol Allowed

Studies show that bees will avoid nectar containing more than about 1% alcohol (ethanol). Even small amounts of fermentation make nectar less attractive.

Bees instinctively choose pure, fresh nectar because it keeps them healthy and their hive safe.

🧠 A Powerful Lesson for Us

The bee’s behavior teaches us something deep about purity, responsibility, and community.
If bees — tiny creatures — recognize alcohol as harmful and refuse to bring it into their home, shouldn’t we protect our own bodies, minds, and families from intoxicants?
Alcohol clouds judgment, memory, and behavior. It can break trust, cause harm, and slowly erode the structure of our communities.

📖 From the Quran & Sunnah

Islam gives us clear guidance on this matter:

"O you who have believed, indeed intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful."
Quran (5:90)

the Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, a small quantity of it is also forbidden
🐝 Final Thought: Be Pure Like the Bee

Let the bees inspire us to choose purity and protect our community. Avoid anything that clouds the mind or harms the body.

Be disciplined. Be mindful.
Be like the bee - protect your hive.

Bee Inspired, Wisals Hive Lesson

Queen Bee die, will 50,000 bees collapse and die?

When a queen bee dies, the hive doesn’t just lose a leader — it loses its future. The queen is the only bee who lays eggs. Without her, there will be no new life. No workers. No foragers. No future. It’s a quiet crisis that could lead to the death of the entire colony — 50,000 bees or more.

But the bees don’t panic.
They don’t scatter.
They act.

With complete unity and speed, the hive begins a process of hope and survival. The worker bees identify several very young larvae — not special ones, just ordinary bee babies. Then, they make an extraordinary decision: they begin feeding them queen food, also known as royal jelly.

This substance is powerful. It doesn’t just nourish — it transforms. The larvae that eat it will grow bigger, stronger, and live much longer. Most importantly, one of them will become the new queen. A new leader. A new future.

The bees don’t wait for a miracle. They build one.
They don’t look for someone “born” to lead. They make a leader — together.

It’s one of the most intelligent, selfless acts in nature. A community in crisis chooses not to give up, but to lift up.

And if we’re paying attention, this small creature can teach us something profound about ourselves.

At Wisal’s Bees, watching this process unfold in a few of our hives has been deeply humbling. The bees are showing us that strength doesn’t come from chaos or control — it comes from unity, service, and shared responsibility. Their survival depends not on one special bee, but on their collective effort to support the one who will carry them forward.

As humans, we’re often told that leadership is inherited, or that greatness comes from power or personality. But the bees tell another story:
The queen is not born. She is made.
Made by a community that believes in transformation.
Made through nourishment — not just of the body, but of trust, support, and vision.

This isn’t far from what Islam teaches us.

> "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)

Change begins within. Growth happens when we take responsibility — not just for ourselves, but for those around us.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
> "The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others."

The bees live this hadith without speaking a word. Their entire world is built on service, collaboration, and sacrifice for the greater good. No one hoards resources. No one works alone. They survive and thrive by building each other up.

> "And cooperate in righteousness and piety…"
(Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:2)

In today’s world, it’s easy to focus only on ourselves. But the hive reminds us that true prosperity comes from helping others rise. When we feed someone "queen food" — whether it's encouragement, mentorship, opportunity, or care — we’re helping not just them, but our whole community.

Let’s act like the bees.

Support each other in times of crisis.
Raise new leaders from unexpected places.
Choose unity over pride, action over complaint, and service over self.

Because when one of us is lifted with love, we all rise.
And when we work together — like the bees — we don’t just survive.
We build a future.

Ameen.
