🌧️ Weather Alert for Our Ko’olauloa ‘Ohana! 🌧️

Aloha ‘Ohana! Another round of rain is headed our way. 🌺

A Kona Low is expected to move through O’ahu this Friday morning — bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and potential hazards on the roads. 🌀

Here’s how to stay safe:

🚗 Drive with aloha — slow down and stay alert on wet roads 🏠 Check your property after the storm passes for standing water 🦟 Remove standing water immediately — it’s a breeding ground for mosquitoes that can carry disease 🌿 Clear gutters, buckets, planters, and any containers that collect water

Your health and safety are always our priority. If you have any health concerns following the storm, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here for you! 💙

Stay safe, stay dry, and look out for one another. 🤙

Aloha ‘Ohana!

Did you know that we believe a community’s health isn’t just measured by access to medical care? It’s true. We believe that physical and mental health are critical elements for improving social well-being. Vibrant public spaces are essential community resources where people come together to play, learn, grow food, exercise, and relax.

At Ko’olauloa Health Center we work with local, public, and private partners to address those needs to improve community health outcomes within the Ko’olauloa area by improving opportunities for physical activity; increasing access to nutritious and affordable food; promoting public safety; and offering high-quality health care services.

Aloha ‘Ohana,

Here is an important PSA from the DOH. The Hawaii Department of Health and Hawaiian Humane Society are urging residents and recovery workers to monitor for signs of leptospirosis in the aftermath of the Kona low storm floods.

Leptospirosis is a potentially serious bacterial illness that can affect both people and pets. It is caused by Leptospira, which is carried in the urine of infected animals, including rats, mice, mongoose, livestock, and dogs.

Aloha ‘Ohana,

Here is a great message from our friends at the Hawaii Department of Health:

Devoting some time every day to care for yourself can go a long way toward protecting your heart health. Self-care, like moving more, preparing healthier meals, getting enough quality sleep, and taking a moment to de-stress, helps your heart.

Call (808) 293-9231 or visit www.koolauloachc.org to make an appointment to learn more about taking care of yourself or scheduling your physical.

Aloha ‘Ohana!

Here is an important PSA from our friends at Surfrider Foundation and the Department of Health.

** HIGH BACTERIA LEVELS DETECTED **

What this means:

These tests measure enterococcus bacteria which is a sign of human or animal waste in the water

When levels go above 130, the risk of getting sick increases

That can include:

stomach illness
skin infections
ear/sinus infections
more serious infections in some cases
This doesn’t mean you will get sick. But it DOES mean the risk is higher especially: after heavy rain , near stream outlets in brown or murky water.

(that’s when runoff + contamination gets pushed into the ocean)
