It's Wellness Wednesday and our School Based Health Center Team is here to share tips for staying active and healthy!

Establishing habits like eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, managing stress and exercising regularly can keep you and your 'ohana in good health. You can stay active by taking family walks, playing physical games like tag, practicing sports, going biking or even swimming together at the pool/beach.

It is important to encourage keiki to see physical activity as a reward and not as a punishment. Staying active provides great health benefits to your child's development both physically and mentally!

Our SBHC team provides education like staying active, social skills and stress reduction, bullying prevention, v**e prevention and so much more at our schools to give keiki the tools that help them advocate for their health early.

This "Testimonial Tuesday" we're celebrating the impact of School Based Health Centers (SBHC's) for busy families.

Cecilia Sakata is our Director of School Based Health, so she sees how SBHCs help families every day, and she's also a mom who knows full well how hard it can be to get kid's to the doctor during the school day. SBHCs reduce barriers and help busy families to access healthcare when they need it.

We currently offer Medical, Dental and Behavioral Health services in many schools across Hawai'i Island. To see our current locations and find out how to get your keiki enrolled in School Based services:

It's SBHC awareness month and we're sharing some Myths and Facts about School Based Health Centers.

SBHC's are so much more than a spot for sports physicals! Students can be seen for urgent needs like checking a rash or illness, and can also receive routine care like physicals, dental check-ups, behavioral health skill building, and immunizations.

Our SBHCs are meant to give parents the full spectrum of care that you'd normally receive at one of our health centers, all with the convenience of being right at school.

To register your child to receive care at school, call 808-326-7321 or check us out online at www.hichc.org/SBHC

Our staff and senior leaders had an amazing opportunity to attend this month's Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Luncheon with the Mayor.

It was a privilege to support our former Bay Clinic CEO and current Mayor, Kimo Alameda, who shared some of their administrations successes this past year and future visions for HI county.

We had a great time networking and sharing resources with the community and local government representatives.

Today we're shining a spotlight on our School Based Health Center Heroes, and we're celebrating our Behavioral Health Patient Navigator, Stephaine Sakata!

Stephaine's role is crucial in supporting our students by creating a safe and welcoming environment where keiki can open up and feel heard. In addition to working directly with students, Stephaine collaborates closely with families and coordinates care across services to ensure every need is addressed because caring for the whole ‘ohana is at the heart of helping kids succeed!

A proud Kona native, Stephaine attended Kealakehe Elementary and Intermediate and now she’s giving back to the very community that shaped her, providing compassionate care at our School-Based Health Centers.
