Hi everyone! I’m Alex, the founder, owner and lead massage therapist at Kona Wellness Center. Two days ago, I celebrated 5 years working full time for myself as a massage therapist 🎉 Running a business has taught me so much about boundary setting, communication, energy preservation and learning to surrender. I feel really proud of the person I’ve become and what I’ve achieved. I’d like to shout out every person who helped me get to this point… that includes my teachers, coworkers, classmates, my support system and of course, my clients 💙 I look forward to seeing where the next 5 years take me. I have lots of other interests and I’m always open to see what else I could do in life. While I love massage, I know I won’t be doing it full time forever. So come get one while you can!

Finally managed to get all the therapists in one place to snap a team photo 🥹 I am incredibly proud of and grateful for this group of talented massage therapists. Seeing the ways they show up with professionalism and love for the space and our clients warms my heart. We really are so dedicated to providing high quality bodywork for those who entrust us with their care. 💚🌿

I think cost is definitely one of the biggest things stopping people from getting a massage… and I totally get it. Life is very expensive and there are many other things that take priority.

But I wonder…

Are you one of those people that mindlessly taps their card and then wonders where all their money has gone at the end of the month?

Do you you have 3+ Stanley’s, 10 different lip pencils, themed decor for every holiday or a bunch of other random stuff that TikTok made you feel like buying even though you truly don’t really need it?

Are you stressed, sore, tight, run down? In desperate need of a massage but still haven’t committed to booking one?

This isn’t to judge or shame anyone. I’m just as guilty as anyone else! I’ve just been thinking a lot about the ways that marketing tricks us into buying things that we end up throwing away or never using. I’m focusing on putting my money where my mouth is and spending it on things I truly value, which includes my health. And I’d like to encourage you to do the same.

If you put $25 away each week into a “health & wellness” savings account, you could afford a 60 min massage once a month or a 90 min massage every 6 weeks.

Getting a massage every 1-2 months is a great starting place for regular massage and can have a profound impact on your stress, energy levels, posture, tension and overall vitality. When you break it down into little $25 chunks, it doesn’t seem too out of reach. And imagine all the other things you waste $25 on without even remembering!

And if that’s still outside your budget but you do want to invest in bodywork, don’t forget that you can get a student massage at Aloha Massage Academy for $45 an hour!

We all work hard for our money and we should spend it on things that enrich our lives. That can come in many forms… travel, therapy, staycation, healthy meal and of course, bodywork 🤍

What makes a great massage? It’s so much more than simply rubbing oil on someone’s body. First, we ensure a safe and comfortable environment for the client by using proper draping techniques, informed consent and by staying within the scope of our practice. During the massage, the pressure, speed and rhythm of each stroke play a huge role in how we affect the nervous system and soft tissue. Some massage techniques are invigorating while others are more soothing. Presence, intention and trust between client and therapist are also extremely important factors. Lomi teacher, Aunty Margaret once said “If your hands are gentle and loving, your patient will feel the sincerity of your heart, his soul will reach out to yours and God’s healing power will flow through you both.” 🩵 The work we do is sacred and healing on many levels. We are honored to be continuing this ancient practice of massage therapy.

You may have seen it on our stories but I had to give it a permanent spot on our feed! We were the second runner up for Best of West Hawaii 2024 in the Massage Therapist category 🖤

Even though we weren’t in first place, it still meant so much to me to see my business’ name printed in the newspaper 😍

4 years ago right in the midst of the 2020 craziness, I started taking private clients. It was hard to get my name out there at first but I kept showing up. I committed myself to making sure every person that walked in the door had a great massage and great customer service. And that is still my priority to this day.

Over time, my business grew to a point where I started to dream bigger and in March of this year, I was able to open Kona Wellness Center. I now have five talented massage therapists renting from me and co-creating a space of healing and relaxation for our community.

To know that people like KWC enough to list is as their fave makes me so damn proud. And to be recognised for simply following my heart’s purpose is one of the best feelings 🙏🏽🥹

Thank you all so much!
