Years ago we were gifted a beautiful wall quilt of our boys Pike and Rome from a talented client . If you have been to our office you have seen this beautiful quilt in our end exam room. We had this now heirloom quilt framed in Koa. A tribute to them and a daily reminder of their lives with us. Today we received another quilt of our Newton. Thank you Valerie Brewer for this incredible gift and sharing your talent of quilting with us.

If you are interested in having your pets portrait done please contact her. We are beyond grateful for ours. They are an incredible piece to art and a testament to her work in textiles.

Happy Sunday … Once again we have people who seem to not understand the concept of privately owned business and privately owned parking lot. Todays adventure some one renting out their vehicle and leaving it in our lot with a lock box on it for some one to pick up. We have video ( yes we have cameras everywhere) of the person dropping off and leaving it in our lot around 7:30am it is still Parked in our lot as of 11:00am. If you know this individual please let them know to call us. We have blocked the entrance so they can not leave the lot with out contacting us and will have the car towed today. Stay blessed.

The end of a beautiful life.

I’ve heard about the rainbow bridge. For years my parents have talked about it. I never thought much about what it was, or what it would be like when it was my turn. I knew something wasn’t right the last month or so. I was slowing down, food didn’t really sound all that good. My family gave me every medication they could to stimulate my appetite and make sure I wasn’t painful. I had kidney issues for the last couple years and I had to have my spleen out a couple years ago as well. So , I guess it was no surprise really when I saw how hard my family was trying to get me to eat the last few days. They were trying to be strong for me and keep It together but I knew something was coming. It got me thinking about my life and how lucky I was to have a veterinarian for a dad and a writer like mom to tell my stories, two brothers and some furry siblings as well. Through all my adventures and the people I met, the human that mattered most though was Miss E, she was my everything.

When I was adopted from the humane society I knew right away the little girl human that smelled like fruit snacks and Cheerios was the girl for me. I loved her the moment I met her. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have her in my life. What ever my life was before her didn’t matter.

Over the course of my amazing life I have sat in a helicopter, been in countless classroom, donated my blood to save lives. I have spent time on a farm, I have hiked all over the island and I have been loved. Like really loved. My family was the most important thing to me. Over the last couple months I really missed Rome. I thought about him often and for some reason the last couple days I could almost feel him near me. Newton seemed to want to lay with me suddenly ( not that I would let him) but I think he knew something was wrong. I found myself truly feeling my body start to shut down. I felt so tired all the time. On my last day the only thing I wanted to eat was Cheerios and my sister and I shared a chocolate bar … I had always wanted to try chocolate. For the record it’s delicious.

I knew when my sister brought my bed downstairs and out onto the Lanai, it was raining softly at the house but the sun was still shining out over the ocean, but I knew what was happening. It was my turn. I was going to the rainbow bridge. My dad put a catheter in my front leg . My sister helded me and sobbed into my neck her body shaking as she kissed me. I leaned into her warm embrace trying to comfort her. My dad leaned forward kissing my head and said “we love you, you were the best boy”. Mom held me tight and whispered “see you later handsome” and then I was watching them. They cried for a long time. Newton came and licked my ear. I felt a strong pull suddenly and I thought I could hear barking. It was then I saw it, the rainbow bridge. I could see all my friends standing just on the other side. Rome, Olive, Sweetie, Runie, Jenner , and Queso. They were all so excited to see me. I realised then I had both eyes again, my cute muscled bum was just like it was when I was younger. The best part was I could hear well again and the loud barks and meows that were greeting me were music to my ears.

Then I noticed everyone looking at something . I turned back towards the bridge to see my family making my paw prints in clay. My dad was clipping my hair for my sister to keep. As they carried my body to the truck I knew I had to let them know I made it and I was just fine. I ran across the field and as I ran I made a rainbow arcing it towards the hospital where my dad and sister were driving . My sister saw it and took a photo . She sent it to mom, who stayed home with Newton, and said “look”…. Mom replied “well we know he got there safely, he is home now”. I turned to look at them all one more time and then raced back to my friends. “Let’s go” I said . I know I can go back to my side of the bridge anytime I want and look at them. Believe me I will definitely be checking back in. I had an amazing 16.5 years. I am sad that I will miss my sisters graduation next spring. I wish I could have been there for her. I am grateful to all of my fans near and far. Thank you all for loving me, for reading my stories for all those years and for being part of my journey. ~Ruff
