A healthy seabird population keeps reefs healthy
PMDP’s work to remove marine debris and ghost nets and isn’t just saving seabirds it helps coral reefs thrive. Healthy seabird populations bring essential nutrients through their guano that fertilize reef ecosystems, fueling coral and algae growth that supports an entire web of marine life.
Mahalo to our Give Back Partner, The Papahānaumokuākea Marine Debris Project for leading this vital work. Follow them on their journey they are out on mission currently and post daily updates.
Every piece of debris removed is a win for our seabirds, reefs, and islands. The Papahanaumokuakea Marine Sanctuary hosts 14 million seabirds and 3.5 million acres of coral reefs. When we protect seabirds, we protect reefs. And when we protect reefs, we protect Hawaiʻi’s cultural and natural heritage for generations to come. Images by and Steven Gnam
