🌱The beautiful A’ali’i plant thrives because of its incredibly flexible nature. But it remains upright due to the deep taproot that grows strong beneath the surface.
🌋This plant is known to grow and even thrive in the most challenging environments. She pushes through the harsh grounds of barren lava fields, that provide little water and shelter.
⛰️This strong woody shrub, can grow in various climate zones ranging from sea level, all the way up to 8000 feet elevation. Few plants can live in the harsh winds and conditions along the slopes our sacred mauna. And yet the A’ali’i stands tall in her beauty even on the slopes of Maunakea.
🪷Her beautiful seedpod flowers, bloom with diverse shades of yellows, greens, pink and even red. These elegant flowers are sought after by lei makers, for its regal beauty, reflecting its very own name A’ali’i (of royalty or chiefly status).
🔨Every part of this plant has use from house building, dye making, weapons, tools, and even medicine.
🍃In nature we often see the plants that endure the harshest environments, often produce the strongest medicine, and the some of the most diverse purpose.
✨When you find yourself in challenging environments, be like the A’ali’i. Allow your roots to grow deep and stand tall. When the winds of opposition push you over, be flexible and resilient. And when it’s time to bloom, let your pain transform into regal beauty. You can thrive no matter where you are. And your adversity will bring you great wisdom and purpose that this world needs.
