At Bella Kai, we’re continually inspired by the resilience, dedication, and transformations that unfold within our community. Every journey is unique, and Michael’s story is a profound reflection of perseverance, healing, and renewed vitality.

“Far and away, the most unexpected part of my journey was the radiant sense of health I began to feel once I committed to a regular practice.

To anyone considering Bella Kai — stop thinking and start doing. This practice is appropriate and effective for all ages, skill levels, and fitness levels.

The day I started at Bella Kai, I was completely crippled and preparing for a series of epidural procedures ahead of what would have been my fifth back surgery. I had previously undergone multiple operations and was living with six large screws, spacers, and stabilization cables supporting my lower spine. At the time, I was bedridden and facing the possibility of yet another major procedure.

Through consistent yoga practice and Kalia’s treatments, my condition began to change. My L5/S1 vertebrae were physically eased back into proper position, eliminating the need for further surgery and restoring my body to a level of strength and physical fitness I had not experienced in decades.

After surviving a devastating motorcycle accident in 1991 and battling opioid addiction for many years, this transformation feels nothing short of extraordinary. This year, I have relied on only two lidocaine patches and have used absolutely no pharmaceuticals of any kind.

I’ve had those spinal screws since 2007 — a procedure that came at great personal cost. Today, I find myself on Maui, deeply grateful for my health and this new chapter.

I owe Kalia a debt of gratitude that can never truly be repaid.”

🔥 MEET DANIEL 🔥

Daniel Phillips’ yoga journey began early, at just 17 years old, when his father took him to his first hot yoga class. That single class was life-changing, igniting a dedication to the practice that has now spanned over 15 years.

A longtime Bikram yoga practitioner, Daniel completed his Hot Yoga 26&2 Teacher Training with Evolation Yoga in November 2023. Working in construction for the past two years, the physical, mental, and recovery benefits of yoga have become even more essential to his daily life and overall well-being.

With a deep background in Martial Arts, Daniel has trained and taught Western boxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, and Jeet Kune Do. Yoga has always been a consistent foundation in his training, practicing nearly every day for the past five years. His movement philosophy blends strength, discipline, awareness, and presence.

Daniel continues to explore and expand his practice through styles such as Ghosh Bishnu’s 84 asanas, using yoga as a tool for self-discovery and growth. He is deeply passionate about sharing yoga and helping others experience the many benefits it offers, both on and off the mat.

You can find Daniel teaching hot yoga at Bella Kai and leading Kick/Box every Saturday at 11:00 AM. And if you’re in class, chances are… he is too. 🥊🔥

Our Story

We are a boutique hot yoga studio located on the windward side of the beautiful island of Oahu - committed to supporting our community. Bikram yoga is suitable for all levels from beginner practitioners to advanced. Comprised of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises performed in a heated room, we offer both 60 minute and 90 minute classes, barre classes and other non heated yoga classes such as iRest Yoga Nidra, Restorative and Yin. Our barre class is a mix of ballet moves, pilates, circuit training and core work. No previous dance or fitness experience necessary! All barre classes are 60 minutes.
