In Kalamazoo earlier this month, Governor Whitmer emphasized what’s important: care for seniors, children, and low-income families. We’re grateful for her and the legislators who chose to protect Medicaid in Michigan and ensure that 27,000 residents will continue to receive the high-quality healthcare they deserve.

On behalf of the entire healthcare community, we commend Governor Whitmer for her commitment to preserving access to compassionate, patient-centered care for those we serve.

Our Office-Based Addiction Treatment program (OBAT) is open to both established patients and new patients of FHC.

It is dedicated to providing holistic care and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in a holistic format.

Meet Laksh Singh!

"Financial health is a key component of overall well-being," says Denise Crawford, President & CEO of Family Health Center. We're incredibly proud to support young leaders like Laksh Singh, who are stepping up and making a real difference in our community.

Laksh is a dedicated Portage Central senior who's been volunteering with us for over 4 years! Laksh is committed to his mission of making financial literacy accessible to everyone and chose to give back in a powerful way: by offering to teach basic budgeting, saving, and financial literacy. He gives back to our community by teaching classes on budgeting, saving, and financial literacy to FHC members.

His goal? To empower others and to one day pursue a career in finance himself. We're so proud of this future leader! 💙

Last week, on Monday, October 13, Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited Family Health Center to sign into law the updated Insurance Provider Assessment bill, which protects Michigan’s Medicaid funding and helps ensure health care access for our most vulnerable neighbors.

This legislation helps preserve crucial federal matching funds for our state, so that providers like Family Health Center can continue offering essential services to families, seniors, and children without disruption.

On Monday, Governor Whitmer visited Family Health Center to highlight the Insurance Provider Assessment bill, which protects Michigan’s Medicaid funding and helps ensure health care access for our most vulnerable neighbors. Michigan secured $2.7 billion in health care funding, protecting Medicaid for millions of Michiganders. This budget keeps hospitals open, care accessible, and communities healthy.

Thanks to Governor Whitmer’s leadership, Michigan’s new budget defends core Medicaid services, protects vulnerable families, and ensures health centers like us continue to serve with compassion and care.

Family Health Center (FHC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the citizens of Kalamazoo County. FHC provides quality health care to some 36,000 historically underserved patients, ensuring that all people who enter our facilities are treated with dignity, respect and a welcoming spirit. FHC opened in 1971 to address the unmet medical needs of low-income and minority populations in Kalamazoo County. From a temporary space in a converted trailer, FHC has grown to five high-quality health care facilities with state-of-the-art services, plus mobile health and dental clinics, all serving our community.
