Relationships have patterns. Let's get curious!

Cactus/fern: One person desires consistent closeness, while the other values privacy.

Introvert/extrovert: One person recharges through solitude, and the other thrives on social interaction.

Approach/withdraw: This pattern describes one person is seeking connection and interaction, which then overwhelms the other partner.

Emotional/logical: One person leads with their emotions, while the other adopts a rational, problem-solving approach to situations.

Criticize/defend: One person regularly criticizes the other, prompting the other to become defensive.

Mutual avoidance: Unlike the push-pull dynamics, in this pattern, both people avoid discussing relationship problems.

Mutual blame: Both people assign blame to each other.

Mountains/molehills: One person frequently exaggerates the severity of relationship problems, while the other minimizes them.

Teacher/student: One person feels compelled to instruct the other.

Dreamer/realist: One person fantasizes about their shared romantic life, while the other maintains a more grounded perspective.

A therapist role helps identify patterns and deepen the understanding of those dynamics. Within the framework of relationship therapy, the goal is to help people reestablish individual responsibility and accountability.

Strategies for building trust in the clinical setting include fostering fairness through reciprocal and equitable interactions. It is also important to identify and address destructive entitlement, as well as common relational issues like horizontal and vertical dynamics, partnership challenges, and fusion. Additionally, consider the influence of gender, power dynamics, and the overall role of trustworthiness.

Contextual therapy helps couples explore resources in strained relationships. This approach appeals to diverse folx by considering their unique backgrounds and avoiding therapist bias. The approach clarifies that these concepts require all involved to acknowledge merit and accountability, not simply assume fairness.

"Success" is measured by practical outcomes, fostering autonomy and mutual responsibility.

It is estimated that 30 percent of first responders develop behavioral health conditions including, but not limited to, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as compared with 20 percent in the general population.

"Trauma Stewardship" by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky is a long-standing favorite text. It is a must-read for professionals who tend to and respond to trauma, as well as for supervisors and educators.

A heartfelt acknowledgement to all first responders and folks care for others. Especially in honor of World Mental Health Day 2025, which this year, focuses on "Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies."

The campaign highlights the urgent need for mental health support during crises such as wars and natural disasters. It emphasizes that mental health support is equally important to physical care during these times. The goal is to build robust systems that protect the mental health of affected communities and aid workers during emergencies. The campaign recognizes that crises disrupt both physical and emotional well-being.

A legitimate cause for concern arises when considering that 30% of our approximately 3 million emergency personnel, nearly a million first responders, may require professional support for a mental health diagnosis.

It's easy to get caught up in thinking we always have to be strong and independent, and that our own problems should come second to helping others. But honestly, asking for help shows you're strong, not weak. Being upfront about your challenges actually takes courage, not fear.

Therapy is a team effort between you and your therapist.

It’s a safe space to talk openly with a professional who's objective, neutral, and won't judge you.

You'll work together to pinpoint and change any thoughts or behaviors that are getting in the way of you feeling your best.

Think about therapy if you’re:

🍃Feeling really down and helpless for a long time.
🍃Issues that just aren't getting better
🍃Trouble focusing on work or everyday tasks
🍃Not enjoying the things that used to bring you pleasure or joy
🍃Lots of worry, always expecting the worst, or feeling constantly on edge
🍃Behaviors that are hurting you or others

It's not about the therapist telling you what to do or following a strict plan. Instead, it's a shared adventure, based on honest talks, mutual respect, and a joint dedication to your health.

Your therapist will guide you, offering expert advice, tools, and a safe place to explore.

But ultimately, making changes and progress is up to you. Together, you'll figure out your challenges, build coping skills, and find ways to live a healthier, more satisfying life.

To really get the most out of therapy, you need to be an active participant.

Ask questions about your treatment plan. If a session doesn't feel like it's helping, speak up!

Practicing consistently is super important for making lasting changes, because it's easy to slip back into old habits. Between sessions, try to stay aware of your reactions and put what you learn in therapy into practice in your daily life. Sharing these experiences with your therapist will help them understand you better and make your treatment even more effective.

Regular practice helps lock in your progress, which could mean less time in therapy and a better chance of keeping those improvements even after you're done.

Seek out therapy today for yourself or support someone you care about get the help they need to live a better everyday life.

Good vibes only?

Self-care may be a popular concept in wellness culture.

However, an excessive pursuit of positivity can lead to what researchers term "toxic positivity."

This occurs when the drive for positivity becomes overwhelming, causing individuals to prioritize positive thinking and disregard genuine emotions.

Essentially, toxic positivity dismisses negative experiences by advocating for an unfailingly optimistic perspective, regardless of the situation.

Be you, they'll adjust.

The Ryder Cup kicks off today! So let's connect with Dr. John Evans, CMPC, PhD Elite Performance at BLND Health about the TEAM, the TEAM, the TEAM.

"Club sports have increasingly prioritized individual achievement over team success, leading to unhealthy social comparison rather than mutual celebration. Attendance at regional club games has dwindled, replaced by a series of showcases where cheering fans are absent, and parents often yell at their children, opposing teams, and referees."

"While this trend might hone individual skills, it frequently fosters ego-driven goals that undermine team cohesion. This environment also contributes to burnout, decreased enjoyment, and a higher incidence of injuries, largely due to increased stress and pressure without the vital social support of a strong team culture."

Despite these challenges, there is still hope.

ATHLETES can help by balancing healthy competition with genuine encouragement for their teammates.

COACHES should focus on developing individual skills while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of team objectives and fostering a positive team culture.

PARENTS can support their children by highlighting skill development, enjoyment, mental toughness, and the understanding that individual success is an integral part of overall team success.

Connect today Dr. John Evans, an expert in performance, sport and mental skills training.

We all deal with stress, but it doesn't have to control us.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) gives us a way to handle stress by accepting our feelings, living by what we value, and taking action even when things are tough.

When we put these ideas into practice, we can build a life that's full of meaning and significantly cut down on the impact of stress.
