Not all dizziness is created equal.

Two of the most commonly confused vestibular conditions are BPPV and Vestibular Migraine—but they have very different causes, symptoms, and treatment paths.
🌀 BPPV is mechanical—it happens when tiny crystals in your inner ear move out of place.
⚡ Vestibular Migraine is neurological—often tied to migraine triggers like stress, hormones, or lack of sleep.

If you’re dizzy and not sure why, this comparison might help you start the right conversation with your doctor.

Did you know your balance depends on five different systems working together?

Your inner ear helps detect motion, your eyes keep you oriented in space, and your skin, muscles, and joints send signals about pressure and movement. All of that information is processed by your brain and spinal cord to keep you steady and upright.

When even one part of this system is disrupted, it can lead to dizziness, imbalance, or disorientation. That’s why vestibular disorders can feel so overwhelming—they impact the entire balance network.

A local Michigan Author and one of our Vestibular Warriors, Penny Lynne Seume, has written a children’s book to help kids understand a parent’s diagnosis of SSCD, or Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence. This is a rare vestibular condition where there is a thinning or hole in the bone of the inner ear, specifically in the superior semicircular canal. It causes various auditory and vestibular symptoms that can greatly affect daily life.

This is a darling book, featuring a flamingo family (flamingos are the vestibular mascot) and how they all cope with the mother’s symptoms and diagnosis of SSCD.
