Hello ladies!! Over the summer several of us have been talking and while some have done triathlons, Mackinac Island/Bridge Swim, various runs (5/10K, half marathons), and other more amazing marathons and Ironmans...there's been many who have expressed a melancholy for "days of yore." And missing the groups. SOOOOO...Bert and I (Amber) have talked to Mel and decided to try something a little different...

A RUN GROUP...but not exactly run training. We want to do a fall run group with 4 goals.
1. THE NUMBER 1 goal the thing that women have expressed they want, they miss, is THE GROUP, the getting together, the camaraderie. SO THAT'S #1. GETTING TOGETHER! We'll have 1 official run a week TUESDAY NIGHTS at 6pm, first time Tuesday, August 29! We know that doesn't always work, but TRY TO MAKE IT!
2. MOVE. Run, walk, you choose the time and distance. Before Tuesday's run, post what distance/time you'll be running, find your group, meet, check-in chat, and go! Everyone will stay for their group, Bert or I will stay til the last person (and everyone is welcome to stay for everyone). This part we'll work on so EVERYONE is with people as much as possible to meet GOAL #1!
3. TRAIN...if you want...sort of part of #2. YOU run/walk for your training. We'll go over how you can train (plans, apps, Garmin training plans) at our first meeting.
4. THANKSGIVING 5K...if you want...try to get us to do one together. There's the WMU Turkey Trot. There's been one at West Middle School where you can predict your time (I came in 8th one year). Or we could just do our own.

The biggest idea, is to join each other, meet up, and ENJOY being together and outside running again!

Is anyone going to be interested in half marathon training this year? I can't guarantee that I'll be at every training session but I can put together a training schedule, find a race, accomodations, etc. And for those that want to do whatever trip but don't want to do a half, we could also do a 10K training at the same time.

Hey all, Bert here. Mel and I have made the decision that Tri training will be discontinued. Mel doesn’t have the time or energy to do it. As much as I’ve enjoyed leading, I was very discouraged this year by the lack of participation. I understand, things happen and we all have lives, but the same goes for me. IVe always been willing to set aside the time to lead the group, but not if there is nobody there to lead 🙂

That is not to say you can’t still train! Get together with friends, pick a Tri and go for it. Many of you have done this for more than a few years…you know what to do.

The fact is, you don’t really need us. You’ve formed bonds with each other and support each other just fine. That’s a good thing!

Will we ever do tri training again? Don’t know. All we know is right now it’s time for a break.

So here are all the details for this years Tri training!

We are training for the Barron Lake Tri in Niles on August 27. Because it is later in the month than our normal Tri, we can start training later (translation, hopefully the water will be warmer!)

All training will be at Ramona Park.
Swim—Sat morning 7:30 am. Yeah, it’s early but we’re working within Ramona Park rules and they’ve been fantastic to us
Run-Sunday night 6:30 pm
Bike/run — Wednesday 6:30 pm

Training will start June 5.

The big news…Mel is back this year!

Cost for training: by donation. We use that money to not only pay for any expenses we may have for the Tri but also to help women that do not have the financial means to buy what they need to do this.

Hey all...it's getting to be that time of year!

Informational meeting for tri training: April 27, 7 pm, Kal Haven trail head on 10th Street

Tentative training schedule: Sat 7 am swim, Sunday 6 pm run, Wed 6:30 pm brick. All will be held at Ramona park in Portage.

As an added bonus: Mel will be back with us this year! She will be there for the Wed night brick.

We are targeting an actual tri this year, instead of doing our own. More to come on that.
