UPDATE - October 31, 2025: Portage City Hall will be open on Saturday, November 1, from 8 AM to 4 PM. To make it more convenient for residents, especially over the weekend, donations of food and personal hygiene items may be dropped off during this time. Make it part of your weekend plans to stop by City Hall and support neighbors in need.

📢 Stuff the Bus Food Drive – Help Your Neighbors in Need

The City of Portage has partnered with Kalamazoo Metro Transit to host a Stuff the Bus food and hygiene product drive benefiting Twelve Baskets Food Pantry. The drive comes in response to the interruption of SNAP benefits caused by the federal government shutdown — and some of our very own community members have been affected.

🚌 Donations can be dropped off at Portage City Hall in the lobby during normal business hours:
• Monday–Thursday: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
đź•” Now through Thursday, November 6 at 5:30 PM

City and Metro employees will help load the Metro bus and deliver donations to Twelve Baskets on Friday, November 7.

Please bring non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products (no fresh food or meat). Every item helps a family through this uncertain time.

Let’s show what it means to be 💙

As summer winds down, we wanted to take a minute to reflect back on the fun and adventure we had at Binder Park Zoo.

Through their generous Ticket to Adventure program, our residents and participants get to spend a day exploring, interacting, and experiencing a wild and wonderful day with the animals at the zoo.

Binder Park Zoo continues to be a favorite activity for our clients by providing a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive space!

We can't wait to visit next year and say hi to the pandas and giraffes (fan favorites), and pop into the gift shop--another fan favorite!

Thanks, Binder Park Zoo, for being so awesome!

Throwback Thursday!

Our directors, managers, supervisors, assistants, and administrative support personnel are still talking about the learnings and reflection from the recent training: “Beyond Racial Disparities: Bridging Cultural Gaps” presented by Dr. Valarie Cunningham of The Synergy Health Center.

As a funded partner of Kalamazoo Community Foundation (KZCF), CLO continues to be able to offer leadership, development, and professional growth trainings to our team members that will directly improve, build, and positively affect the important work we do in our community.
We appreciate Kalamazoo Community Foundation for their continued support of our agency and the greater Kalamazoo area!

Valarie’s message of inclusion, recognizing implicit biases, building cultural intelligence, and proceeding humbly with cultural sensitively is meaningful to advancing and supporting our Mission: to assist individuals in achieving their life goals by building relationships through quality services in supportive environments.

Thank you Dr. Cunningham and KZCF for helping us move our mission forward.

: It's a good day when we have more than one post. Today, we're pumping up our upcoming Breaking Barriers Breakfast fundraiser for the Kalamazoo area which is taking place next week at Next Level Sports Center.

Join us for this event and bring a friend (or two!). 🎉 You’ll hear some amazing stories from people whose lives have been changed by our work. We’re excited to celebrate our mission and the successes we’ve achieved together. The event is free, yet we hope you’ll be inspired to make a contribution toward the important work we’re doing in the community. 💙 See you there!

This week gave us the perfect weather and the perfect people to help celebrate Direct Support Professionals week!

Celebrating all staff, but especially our Program Support Staff and Transitional Support Staff, we thanked our employee community in many ways: Kona Ice, Goodie Bags, Popcorn, a Grill-Out, a Car Wash, and Raffles!

One of the most special ways we said thanks is from our amazing program and site supervisors to their direct reports.
Each supervisor personalized appreciation to their team members at their sites with thank you notes and more: from caramel apple bars, to dinner, to gift bags.

CLO knows that the commitment to our mission, vision, and values starts with the care that is provided by our Direct Care Workers. We would not be CLO without our wonderful staff!

Thank you to all our Teams. We Appreciate You!
