As Non-Binary Awareness Week ends, the awareness itself doesn’t end. Non-binary people have always existed and always will. 💛

Non-binary identity didn’t begin in the 1990s that’s when the term gained recognition.
Across cultures and time, people have lived outside the boxes of “male” and “female.” That truth has been present, even when it wasn’t named.

This is a glimpse into the histories and spirits that have long held space beyond the binary.

In many Native American cultures, Two-Spirit is a sacred identity embodying both masculine and feminine spirit, often rooted in roles of healing, community, and ceremony.🌿

In Indigenous Pacific cultures, Māhū are honored not for how they look, but for their spiritual, emotional, and social balance. 🌺

Non-binary people aren’t a new phenomenon. They’ve always been here. But history often silenced what it didn’t understand.

Today, we make space by remembering, listening, and naming what’s always been. 🌈
