Anarcha. Betsey. Lucy.

Names we should never forget.

While enslaved, these three Black women were forced to endure inhumane gynecological experiments. Anarcha was just 17 years old when her surgeries began, undergoing more than 30 procedures.

Their suffering and bloodshed laid the foundation for modern American gynecology. Without consent, without pain relief, and for far too long, without recognition.

Black people continue to face disproportionate harm and neglect within the healthcare system today.

We honor Anarcha, Betsey, and Lucy as the true Mothers of Gynecology, uplifting their names so they are not forgotten.

We hope you take a moment to learn, share, and honor their story.

Black Trans History IS Black History. πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ’—

To those who have shaped culture and built possibilities where none were offered. To those who have fought, created, and demanded a future where Black trans lives not only exist, but thrive.

To those who took matters into their own hands, ensuring Black trans people can live with dignity, joy, and power, we honor you.

We are here because of you.

This year marks 100 years of Black History Month.

It was carried forward by people who couldn’t afford to wait β€” for recognition, for care, for anyone in power to listen.

In the face of HIV/AIDS, Black activists, artists, and caregivers created the support systems, the art, and the advocacy β€” because no one else was going to.

Many never made a headline. They showed up anyway.

That history lives in the people still here β€” survivors who continue to shape how we take care of each other.

Black history is living history. We carry it forward.

This February, , we'd like to dedicate space to learning and remembering.

- 250 years since U.S. independence
- 100 years since Negro History Week began in 1926, of what we know now as Black History Month, established by Dr. Carter G. Woodson and ASALH: Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

Their work made Black history something to study, teach, and celebrate. Not ignore!

This year's ASALH theme, "A Century of Black History Commemorations," invites us to look at how remembering our history has transformed the lives and status of Black people in the modern world.

We hope you all will join in by sharing pieces of Black history, past and present, so we don't forget who built this country and how far we still have to go.
