❄️ WINTER STORM SAFETY MESSAGE ❄️

A major winter storm is impacting large parts of the U.S. The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) urges everyone to take steps now to stay safe.

🔥 Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn
⚠️ Never use ovens, grills, or generators to heat your home
🚨 Make sure smoke alarms and CO alarms are working
🕯️ Avoid candles—use flashlights when possible
🔌 Prepare for power outages with flashlights, batteries, and warm clothing
🚗 Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary

Cold weather increases the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Preparation and safe choices save lives.

Now that cooler temperatures are here, some may want to use their small space heaters instead of turning on their furnace. If you decide to use a space heater, DO NOT plug it into a power strip or extension cord. Plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. Power strips are not designed to handle the huge energy load of a space heater and can overheat causing a fire hazard. ⚠️🔥
