Now that cooler temperatures are here, some may want to use their small space heaters instead of turning on their furnace. If you decide to use a space heater, DO NOT plug it into a power strip or extension cord. Plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. Power strips are not designed to handle the huge energy load of a space heater and can overheat causing a fire hazard. ⚠️🔥

It's May 5 - 11, 2024. This year's theme is Protecting Houses of Worship — Fire as a Weapon.

Each year from 2020 to 2022, an estimated average of 1,300 fires in places of worship were reported to fire departments in the U.S. These fires resulted in an estimated annual average of $74.6 million in property loss.

The United States Fire Administration, in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is hosting an Arson Awareness Week webinar on Monday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
