In March to celebrate Women’s History Month, Pfizer Women's Resource (PWR) group at Pfizer Kalamazoo partnered with Family & Children Services to collect and deliver essential period/hygiene products and diapers in support of local families.

Thanks to the generosity of colleagues across Pfizer, they were able to provide us with supplies that are everyday necessities. This effort focused on dignity, access, and practical community support.

Hygiene items are incredibly expensive and for many of our clients, these create a burden that feels insurmountable at times. We are so grateful for Noel McCaw and the PWR group for celebrating Women's History Month in such an impactful way!

Rx Kids is reshaping the City of Kalamazoo’s future by investing in families — offering love, hope, and opportunity. "I have used the payments to buy the supplies my baby needs like breast pump parts, diaper cream, diapers, etc. My ability to properly care for my children is the biggest factor affecting my mental health," said one Kalamazoo mom.

At Family & Children Services, we know that the mental health of the caregiver directly impacts the mental health of their children. We're thrilled that we have programs like Rx Kids in Kalamazoo to support children and families right here in our community.

Last week 17 staff members attended the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Summit in Granger, Indiana.

(TBRI) is transforming how professionals and caregivers understand and respond to children who have experienced trauma. This attachment-based, trauma-informed approach is grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory, and sensory research. At its core, TBRI helps adults see behavior not as defiance, but as communication of an unmet need. It's why the theme for the Summit was the African Proverb, "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth." Because our staff understand that a child who has experienced trauma needs connection in order to communicate needs effectively and appropriately.

For more on TBRI and how we are using it at our agency, keep your eyes out for our Annual Report, hitting mailboxes in a few weeks!

For the sixth year in a row, Eugenia Cole has brought joy and comfort to children in foster care through a simple yet meaningful tradition, hand-prepared Easter bags. Each year, Eugenia dedicates her time and resources to creating thoughtful gift bags, ensuring that children who may be facing uncertainty still have a reason to smile during the holiday.

What began as a small act of kindness has grown into a heartfelt commitment. Eugenia understands that for many children in foster care, holidays can be especially difficult. By providing these Easter bags, she offers not only gifts, but also a sense of care, recognition, and belonging.

Her continued generosity is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can make. Through her efforts, dozens of children each year are reminded that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten. Thank you so much, Eugenia!

Members of Alpha Phi, Delta Theta Chapter came to our Agency last week and cleaned the Activity classrooms, helped stock our pantry, and put out the Child Abuse Awareness pinwheels. These young women approached us about volunteering as they wanted to be involved in helping the community in some way and knew we would find a way to help them in that endeavor!

We are so grateful for young people like them who understand it really does take the whole community to lift one another up. Thank you so much for coming out and helping ensure our clients know they are valued and respected, Alpha Phi ladies!

Want to volunteer with us? Email Heather Videto at heather.videto@fcsource.org.

March is Women’s History Month. In this moment, our community faces challenges that are deeply connected; economic uncertainty, gaps in healthcare, environmental concerns, and barriers to opportunity. And too often, people most affected are the ones with the fewest resources - women.

But every day, we see something powerful: a team of dedicated women showing up, leading with compassion, and creating real change from the ground up.

At Family & Children Services, our staff made up largely of women, help build a stronger, more resilient community where they strengthen families, expand access, and create pathways forward. Their work reminds us that sustainability isn’t just about the environment. It’s about people. It’s about stability, opportunity, and ensuring every generation has the chance to thrive.

When women lead in service of their communities, they don’t just respond to challenges, they reshape the future.

Thank you to the women of Family & Children Services, and our large community and world, for the impact they make every day!
