The Kalamazoo Autism Center (KAC) founded in 2008 by Dr. Richard Malott, author, behavior analyst, and professor in the department of psychology at Western Michigan University (WMU). Dr. Malott helped develop the Early Childhood Special Education classrooms that are now at KRESA's West Campus in Kalamazoo, MI. While still actively involved in those classrooms, he started the Kalamazoo Autism center to supplement the ECSE classrooms and help special needs children all over southwest Michigan. Staff at the KAC use Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) therapy to target skills such as communication, activities of daily living (e.g., toileting, tooth brushing, hand washing), play, and social skills. They also work to decrease inappropriate behaviors (e.g., tantrums and self-stimulatory behaviors). KAC accepts Medicaid and private insurance, and is open from 8:00am until 6:00pm Monday-Friday.

KAC has power again. Our current plan is to be open tomorrow (Tuesday) 💙 We do have a tree down in the yard, so we will limit children to indoor activities until that is cleared and the space is safe.

The KAC is closed today due to power outage and storm damage. We will keep families posted as we gather more information and make decisions. Sending our best to those who have been hit hard by recent storms, and our gratitude to the first responders who support our community in these times of need ❤️
