About the therapist...

Welcome to Intentional Journey Counseling Services, PLLC. My name is Kristi Karel and I am a licensed clinical social worker with an advanced certification in alcohol and drug counseling. I have worked in the non-profit realm before venturing into private practice and have work as a therapist for most of the last 8 years.

I have served clients in Allegan and Kalamazoo counties who have mental health and substance use disorders, legal involvement, are on probation or parole, or involved in drug treatment or diversion programs, and clients who have Child Protective Services involvement.

I specialize in the treatment of individuals who have experienced trauma; such as intimate partner abuse, childhood abuse/neglect, witnessing violence or loss of a loved one. I also have a special interest in working with individuals who have been diagnosed with a dissociative disorder or have expereinced or are experiencing dissociative episodes.

I also work with clients to address concerns with depression, anxiety, relationships, life transitions, and self-esteem. Sometimes these symptoms go hand-in-hand with a trauma diagnose or they are stand alone issues for clients. I also hold an advanced certification in alcohol and drug counseling.
