Welcome and thank you for taking the first step in the journey of becoming the best version of you. Counseling is most importantly about the relationship between the clinician and the client. My goal is to offer you a safe and nonjudgmental space to explore any challenges you may be experiencing and to provide support for you in achieving your goals.

I am interested in working with individuals experiencing a variety of challenges. I specialize in working with adolescents, but am open to working with individuals of all ages (10+). I am honored to provide a supportive and inclusive space for members of LGBTQ+ community as well as those navigating a neurotypical world while neurodiverse. I have experience with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, anger management and trauma.

What is often needed to overcome challenges or find a more joyful way of living is someone who can help us look at things from another angle. Whether on a personal growth path or working to transform a relationship, a different perspective can be life-changing.

My approach is person-centered and experiential with couples and individuals. My orientation is systemic and existential - that means we will look at dynamics and patterns, and together we'll explore actions, feelings, beliefs, and strategies to help you consciously shape your life and build the nourishing relationships you want. When we look back, it's in order to move forward with joy and purpose.

I value authenticity, kindness, and curiosity. I’m a little swear-y, I believe laughter is healing, and I think humans are magnificent. Stories are special and often sacred - how we tell them, and to whom, matters.

This is a newish chapter for me - a long-time educator/artist, I returned to school and earned a degree in counseling. I understand what it is to navigate change - it can be exciting and scary! I am passionate about supporting others through choice points and transitions to help them create their favorite lives.

Whatever counseling journey you’re on – relational or individual, a big adventure or a quiet re-envisioning - I'd love to travel with you!

I am open to seeing individuals, couples, and families who may be struggling with a variety of issues or concerns. I have over 12 years of experience in working with children and specialize in working with children and adults on the Autism Spectrum or who have ADHD. As the Director of Autism Services at Meaningful Connections, I run and supervise social skills and support groups for both adolescents and adults who are on the Autism Spectrum or struggle with social anxiety.

I am particularly interested in working with families who may have a family member with disabilities and are looking for support, as well as those who are struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, and parenting issues.

I have also completed the Building Warriors training, and am specially trained to be a support to First Responders of all kinds. The wealth of my experience so far has been working with police officers and I have really enjoyed supporting the first responder community.

Finding someone to trust and confide in with life’s demands can be challenging. To put yourself out there and say, “Here are my problems,” can be intimidating and scary. It is my hope to create an environment where you will feel safe, free from judgement, and comfortable to explore and better your life. My goal is to help you on your journey to self discovery, growth and happiness. You are your greatest teacher and together my hope is for us to achieve your greatest potential.

💃 Clinician of the Week time! 💃 This week, we are introducing you to Becca Rustenholtz, MA, LPC, LLMFT! Read her bio below: ⬇

Hello! My name is Becca Rustenholtz, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Limited Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Master of Arts degree in Counselor Education: Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from Western Michigan University.

As a counselor, I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy and consider my clients the experts on their own lives. I view counseling as a collaborative process where I offer my clients support and guidance as we explore together the concerns that brought them to counseling. I provide all my clients a safe, nonjudgmental space to share their stories and ensure that they feel heard, accepted, and respected in the counseling setting. I also recognize that each client is unique, and I am committed to meeting individuals where they are throughout the counseling process. My goal is to help my clients better manage their lives and support them on their journey toward growth and change. I work with children and adolescents (ages 8-18), but I have experience working with young adults (ages 19-25) as well. My specialty areas include anxiety, anger, stress, self-esteem, and depression.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and cats, watching U of M and Lions football, reading, traveling around Michigan, and listening to music.

If you believe that I am the right fit and you are ready to make a change, please fill out our referral form online to request an appointmnet. I look forward to working with you!

Hanukkah Sameach! ✡️🕎
Happy last day of Hanukkah to all those who celebrate, from the team here at Meaningful Connections Counseling. Particularly in light of recent events in Australia, we hope that this Hanukkah was still filled with peace and joy for our Jewish friends and neighbors. ✨️It's time for another Clinician of the Week!✨️
This week, meet Alex Knoll! Read her bio below:

I am very happy to see that health and wellness have become a focal point in our cultural dialogue, for both mental and physical health. I have always been a believer that mental and physical health are very connected, and that when one is affected, the other will be affected as well. I tend to prefer a holistic view of people -and the presenting problems- within their context.

I use humor, warmth, and empathy to engage with people in session. I was trained in Family Systems Theory, which helps me further explore issues within their context. I was a Spanish Major and Communications Minor in my undergraduate program at Adrian College, so I love language. I love therapeutic interventions that utilize language (narrative therapy, reframing, empowering speech). I also love working with couples, and helping them navigate themselves and the world around them. It can be really difficult to bring about working solutions to a partnership, and sometimes having a non-biased third party can make so much difference in that journey! Learning to communicate and have productive conversations can do so much for the partnership in the therapy room and beyond.

Beyond working with couples, I have a variety of areas of interest that include (but of course are not limited to) working with eating disorders, issues with aging and stages of life, grief and loss, fitness and health, issues with s*x and s*xuality, and s*x work allied therapy.
