All of us have something about our lives we would like to change. If you're not sure what needs to change, but know something does, or you know exactly what you need to change but not sure how to make it happen, you're in the right place!

I have been helping people to make healthy and positive change in their lives for 19 years, and have seen a great deal of success amongst my clientele. My primary focus is on relationships/couples therapy, infidelity, adolescents, infertility, substance abuse evaluations, and anxiety. I have completed Level 3 Gottman Couples Therapy Training, and have helped couples with a wide variety of concerns to move out of being "stuck", and learn to communicate and enjoy their relationships.

Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and EMTs are a unique population who deserve specialized support. I have completed the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training, and am specially trained to be a support to First Responders and their families.

Infertility, and the impact it has on couples and individuals is my passion. Due to my own history of infertility, I know very well the effects this can have. Being on the other side of the infertility journey gives me a unique ability to help those who are currently struggling.

I am skilled at Substance Abuse Evaluations and coordinate well with courts and other members of the legal system.

I also have a great deal of experience providing supervision for LLPCs and LLMFTs, and offer individual and/or group supervision.

🌿 Happy Clinician of the Week! This week, we are pleased to introduce another member of our Educational Consultant team, Melissa Wierenga, MA.
Read her bio below to learn more about her:

As a Strategic Educational Consultant I support the parent and family as you navigate the school system to ensure your child receives the appropriate supports and services, and you as the parent are informed, empowered, and engaged throughout your child’s education experience. I am committed to creating a safe space where your child can explore and learn about their strengths in order to leverage them in an education setting.

I am a certified teacher with experience in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Early Literacy Instruction, Coaching, and Consulting. I have been supporting children, their families, and educators for over 15 years within the education systems in Southwest Michigan.

I am a wife and mom who enjoys family time watching movies, going on hikes, and watching my sons play golf, soccer, and basketball. I also find joy in weight lifting, writing, camping, and traveling.

Since graduating from Western Michigan University in Special Education in 2009 and again in 2015 with my Masters in Literacy Studies, it has been my mission to serve children and families to provide access to individualized learning goals and high quality intervention plans. By empowering children to be self-aware through their learning process, children become more comfortable, engaged and confident in their abilities to learn.

It's time for a Clinician-of-the-Week! 💃 This week, we are introducing you to Kate Cooper, LLPC, LLMFT! Read her bio below for more information:

My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where individuals (ages 16 and up) of any gender, identity, or background can explore their experiences, build self-understanding, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels supportive and respectful. I enjoy working with individuals and couples who are looking for support in navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship issues, grief and loss, and life transitions. I also enjoy working with adults and students experiencing occupational or academic pressure, identity development, and issues with self-esteem.

Some people come to therapy looking for a place to process past or current experiences, while others are ready to learn new coping strategies, improve communication and conflict management skills, or receive psychoeducation that helps normalize what they’re going through. My approach is collaborative and flexible, and I enjoy helping people connect with practical tools and resources that foster growth both in and outside of therapy while encouraging new perspectives and self-compassion along the way.

My work is grounded in evidence-based practice, integrating CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Oriented Problem Solving. When working with couples and families, I also incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy and Family Systems Theory to help strengthen connection and understanding within relationships.

I earned my master’s degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2022.

I am currently accepting in-person and virtual clients.

Happy Clinician-of-the-Week! 🥰 This week, meet Rebecca Cook, MA, LPC, LMFT, CCATP, ASDCS. Read her bio below for more information ⬇️:

Helping you find freedom, clarity, and connection. Therapy doesn't have to be stiff or serious all the time. Yes, life can be overwhelming and complicated, but we can talk about it in a way that feels human. I show up in the room as a real person - warm, open, curious, and not afraid to crack a joke or gently call you out when it's needed. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, relationship issues, identity exploration, or family dynamics. I am here to walk with you - not in front of you. Together, we will create a space that is honest, flexible, and uniquely yours. I bring a mix of humor, honesty, and heart into my sessions. You'll get support, but you'll also get challenged. I'm not the therapist who nods silently - I'm engaged, responsive, and always aiming to create a space where you feel seen. Therapy with me is all about collaboration and connection - between us, and within you.

I believe therapy works best when it is rooted in authenticity, freedom, and connection. You get to be fully yourself here - messy parts and all. There's no pressure to show up as anything but human. If you are tired of pretending everything is fine, or just need someone who "gets it", I'd love to connect - let's make something that actually works for you.

🌿It's time for another Clinician-of-the-Week! 🌿 This week, meet Nikki Harris, LMSW-Clinical. Read her bio below to learn more about her services.

Do you feel stuck? Are you struggling to navigate challenges in your life, relationships, or work? Does it feel like you are just trying to stay afloat instead of engaging fully in your life? If so, you are not alone! Many of us have these feelings at some point. The good news is that you do not need to feel this way forever! Each of us has a choice to make about the type of life we want to live, and therapy is a great place to begin exploring our options, welcoming change, and reclaiming our power to choose. As Tolkien wrote, "all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us".

As a therapist, my goal is to create a supportive and safe space where you can foster self-awareness, explore those parts of yourself you’ve long rejected or ignored, and connect with your inner strength and sense of self. Sometimes therapy involves exploring those areas of your life you would normally shy away from and I strive to be a partner as you take those brave steps toward self-discovery. I cannot do the work for you, but I can travel alongside you on your journey.

I am a graduate of Western Michigan University with my Master’s degree in Social Work with a focus on holistic health and mindfulness. I love working with adults to address anxiety, trauma, life transitions, identity and self-esteem concerns and personal growth. I use a variety of trauma-informed therapeutic approaches, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic therapies. I will work with you to identify the strengths you already have while introducing practices and concepts to help you craft your own path toward growth.

I am currently accepting new adult clients and would love to meet with you to see if we would be a good fit to work together.

🌿Happy Clinician-of-the-Week day! Meet Brandon Michael McKinney, MA, LPC, NCC. Read his bio below to learn more about him:

I believe that although many clients have similarities, each client is different and deserves individualized intervention strategies. I can assist each client in developing their specific box of tools to address their personal issues and to meet their counseling goals. I believe that the best view of therapy is a holistic view. A hammer is an effective tool until a wrench is needed. A toolbox with many diverse tools has the best chance at repairing a multitude of concerns.

In the first session I inform you, as well as each client, that even though I have my licensure, my degrees, my education and my experience; this is my first time meeting you. You know more about your life than I do, which makes you an expert in the room. What I have to offer is simply that. Offerings. I will offer evidenced based strategies as well as experimental strategies that are tied to Art & Science. I do not insist. I do not demand. I make offerings and we work together to pinpoint what strategies will work best for you. All work that is done in session is done as a team.

I am a fully licensed Professional Counselor and I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Based CBT, Motivational Interviewing, as well as many other modalities.

I received my B.S. in Psychology, as well as my M.A in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling, from Western Michigan University. I am also a National Certified Counselor.

I serve a diverse population of clients, and ensure accessibility to all clients, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. I ensure that client confidentiality is honored at all times.

Thank you for allowing me to sit with you and allowing me to hold your sacred truths.
