🐶🐱🐷🐴🦋🐍🐟🐆🦬🐩🕊️🦦🐛🐯🦊 Give your furry friends some extra love (and treats!) today, because it's International Animal Rights Day! Acknowledged in tandem with International Human Rights Day, this day is meant to remind us that all creatures, great and small, are deserving of respect and freedom from suffering.

If you have the capacity, reach out to your local animal shelter to see what needs they have during the holiday season! Meaningful Connections Counseling is located next to the SPCA of Southwest Michigan. Check them out after your next appointment!

🫶🌍 All persons are worthy of dignity and respect. 📣🥰
December 10th commemorates the day in 1948 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Equality, Freedom, and Justice For All is at the root of this declaration.

Look into local incentives and organizations that support this declaration, and be sure to extend some extra kindness to those around you today. 🤝🌏

🎉 It's Fri-yay, everyone! This week, meet Morgyn at MCC!
Read Morgyn's bio below to learn more about her!⬇

“You cannot heal what you refuse to confront.” Is this a phrase that resonates with you? If so, then you are in the right place. Sometimes in life we get to a point where we realize that we are not living our truest life or our most actualized self. This can be anything from dealing with our daily turmoil and tribulations to confronting deep insecurities, distressing anxiety and depression, or past trauma. One of the key steps to overcoming these concerns is to turn inward and examine the self. Counseling is a process where you can do this in a safe, consistent, and helpful relationship. In our counseling relationship, I promise to provide you with my most authentic self so that you can discover yours.

My name is Morgyn Poehlman and I am one of the newest members of Meaningful Connections Counseling PLC. I have a Masters in Counseling Education with a focus in Clinical Mental Health Counseling which I received in the summer of 2020. I am licensed professional counselor with the state of Michigan. I have had various trainings in areas including but not limited to: trauma, su***de, domestic violence, LGBTQ issues, and human trafficking. While I do not have any current specialties, I do enjoy working with individuals (adults) through concerns related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and LGBTQ matters. My goal is to work with you by providing a safe space to deconstruct while also challenging you to grow and develop an authentic sense of self.

The most important part of my counseling style is to understand that our relationship is free from judgment. I am not here to judge you; I am here to help you. The best way that I know how to do that is to love and respect you as the perfectly imperfect human being that you—and we all—are. I am willing to put in the work if you are, too. I cannot give you the answers and I cannot tell you what to do, but what I can do is support you and travel this part of the journey with you while you find your resolutions. If this sounds like the right fit, I welcome you to contact me. I look forward to spending time getting to know you in your sincerest form.

🌎Today is the UN-declared International Day of Persons with Disabilities! Whether you have a visible or invisible disability, your health and mental health matter, and you deserve to be heard, seen, and believed.
According to the UN, 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. People with significant disabilities are more likely to experience health inequities due to stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education, and barriers in the health system. ✨It's time for another clinician of the week!✨
Today, we are introducing Leah Condit! Read Leah's bio below👇:

Do you have, or suspect you have, ADHD? Has social media, yes TikTok/instagram, lead you to suspect you may have ADHD but don't know where to start? I'm passionate about helping you understand ADHD, how it affects YOU, and what you can do with it. ADHD is widely misunderstood as a lack of focus or attention. ADHD is more accurately an issue of regulation which includes emotions, impulsivity, money, attention, sensory sensitivity, etc. I work with clients on managing their symptoms, and also the anxiety and depression that stem from ADHD.

I graduated from Western Michigan University with a masters in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. I am EMDR trained and practicing. I am also a Gottman Level 1 trained clinician. I have done extensive trainings and research into ADHD. My goal is to create a non-judgemental space where collectively we can reach your individualized treatment goals.

No one is born knowing how to deal with emotions or regulate themselves, we learn this over time by others showing us how. I enjoy getting creative in helping you understand your life better in order to feel better. If you want to work with a therapist that also has ADHD, swears a little bit, and uses humor in session, then we may be a good fit.

💃🏻 It's Friday, which means we are going to start highlighting clinicians of the week at MCC! This week, meet Megan Hildebrandt!👇

Here is Megan's Bio:
The early years of a person’s life can provide the structure and foundation that shapes how they view the world around them, and how they view themselves. Giving someone the opportunity and tools to identify, process and embrace their thoughts and feelings can make all the difference in supporting someone in becoming who they will be. My name is Megan and I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling Education, specializing in marriage, couple and family therapy from Western Michigan University. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults and families!

I specialize in helping children to learn how to embrace and cope with their strong emotions, behavioral struggles, and life changes using play therapy techniques and a strengths-based approach. From a parental perspective it can be difficult to know where to start in helping provide your child with these skills. Through parental coaching, I help provide parents with the tools and support to better help them provide structure, support and guidance to use these skills alongside their kiddos. I also enjoy working with teens and adults struggling with navigating various struggles of life and mental health issues.

By offering a safe and encouraging space my goal is to help my clients practice self-reflection and acquire the skillset they need to reach their goals while finding their way through the hardships they may be facing. I look forward to working with you!
