Training Assistance-“Job Coaching”
Many individuals with disabilities have been able to maintain employment by using the services of a Job Coach. A Job Coach is often referred to by several different professional titles such as Job Trainer, Job Specialist, or Employer Consultant. Job Coaches come from a wide variety of backgrounds such as rehabilitation, teaching, or business and are responsible for assisting an individual with a disability to maintain employment by offering on-site and/or off-site support. A Job Coach performs a variety of duties in the course of assisting an individual with a disability to maintain employment. Many times the Job Coach will spend time at the individual’s workplace to learn the job duties of the individual in order to help him or her to build proficiency over time. He or she may also help identify possible accommodations or model expected behaviors and provide actual “hands on” job training. The role of a Job Coach is not only to support and to advocate for an individual with a disability, but also to support the employer and to answer any questions he or she may have. The services provided by the Job Coach are provided at no cost to the employer. Liability insurance coverage for the Job Coach is supplied by Montana's Employment Opportunities. Although a Job Coach does not act as supervisor for the employee, a Job Coach is a valuable resource to the employer for initial training and can be considered a reasonable accommodation according to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Job Assessments/Tryouts
What is an assessment? An assessment could also be called a Job Try-Out. It is an opportunity for a future job seeker to experience a job in a specific career field. The individual performs the duties of the job while a Montana's Employment Opportunities staff member observes and assists if necessary. The assessment is paid and the individual is covered by Workers Compensation however is not taking the place of any of the employees at the assessment site. Are there liability issues? All liability is covered by State of Montana Vocational Rehabilitation for the individual. There is no risk or obligation to the employer/assessment site. What are the benefits? As an employer, you are giving an opportunity to an individual to see and to experience a job in a real-life setting. The individual benefits by gaining a better understanding of the skills necessary to perform that specific job. The business benefits by gaining an extra pair of hands for a few hours. And
By agreeing to be an assessment site, you are partnering with an agency that has been serving Flathead, Lake, Mineral, Sanders and Lincoln Counties for the past 7 years, with the highest number of placements. You will be assisting individuals with disabilities to explore their vocational interest area. This is all done with no cost or liability to your company. You are not obligated to hire an individual who participates in an assessment. Montana's Employment Opportunities staff is on site with the individual, so there will be minimal to no interruption of your normal working routine.
