Last year, I jumped from the rock wall at the climbing gym and received some stress fractures in my foot + ankle because I landed incorrectly. The incident happened on a Friday evening, and I did not go to urgent care. It didn’t matter to me if the injury was soft tissue or a fracture(s), regardless, I was going to treat it the same.
No NSAIDs, just ice for the first 24 hours, auricular acupuncture, local acupuncture, Zheng gu shui, and KT tape for support.
I used crutches for about a week before I decided they were a greater nuisance than my foot/ankle itself.
I wore my muck boot for extra support during chores and while hauling bags of feed to the feed bins. I performed these duties solo as Tallon was still over-the-road at the time. I also wore my Birkenstocks while running errands, at church, etc. because I wanted to keep movement and bloodflow to the area to aid the healing process. Sometimes, restricting motion is a greater hindrance to healing. (Mind you, we are talking about soft tissue damage/micro fractures of the bone, not a fully broken leg/ankle that required surgery. That healing process would have looked a little different.)
I visited urgent care about a week after the initial incident to rule out DVT due to a deep, throbbing ache in my right calf. All looked good and I left without pain meds.
In total, I want to say I was close to a 100% recovery in about 4-6 weeks.
Long story to say, acupuncture works, and ensuring good blood flow, heals!
