Mahalo to our Emergency Operations Center teams! Their commitment to continuous learning and readiness was on full display during the recent statewide Hurricane Makani Pahili drill, where their coordination, communication, and care ensured a strong and unified response.

We were especially honored to welcome the Hawaii Air National Guard — including one of our own, hospitalist Dr. Timothy Hiura — whose presence reminded us of the deep connections between our clinical teams and our broader community of first responders.

Today I shared a message with Kaiser Permanente employees reaffirming our commitment to support diversity and inclusion in our workplace and

01/30/2017

Jeremy Masiclat is a hospital aide in Telemetry at Moanalua Medical Center and has been with Kaiser for two years:

“I put myself in my patients’ position. How would I want to be treated? Or if that patient was my son, how would I treat them? I put myself into their position first and then I just do what I got to do to help them out. Sometimes they’re alone. I work night shift. Sometimes they come from different islands and so they’re by themselves. So I feel what they’re feeling. If I’m here and all my relatives are out there, I don’t want to be neglected — especially if I don’t feel good.

For me, every time I go home, I want to feel accomplished. I don’t want to go home knowing that there’s somebody that I didn’t take care of or I left someone out.

One thing I learned working at the hospital is that I learned to appreciate life more. I learn to say ‘I love you’ to the people I love everyday. I call my mom, my sister, and my grandma. Because you’re not sure what will happen. You only live once and you just got to do it day by day. I’m just glad that for the people who feel alone at night … I’m just glad that I’m able to hold their hand and help them out a little bit. And when they remember me and say my name, it feels good. I feel accomplished.”
