Vite for Mia! ❤️❤️

Our 10th annual Rock Your Scar® competition begins tomorrow!

MHI's annual Rock Your Scar Competition recognizes everyone's journey with congenital heart disease ( ) is different, but we all gain scars along the way, both emotionally and physically. We want every child and adult who was born with a heart defect to feel good about themselves and be proud of who they are - ROCK STARS! So come on, show us how you rock your scar!

The Rock Your Scar 2023 Photo Contest and National CHD Awareness campaign starts on January 1, 2024, and ends on January 31, 2024. We welcome photo submissions from anyone who was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD); participants do not need to have a scar.

It’s been awhile….. Mia had a fabulous 16th birthday! We have been busy with cardiac rehab, dr appointments, and home bound school. She doing pretty good! She’s getting stronger every day. Are days go by pretty fast though. We are busy keeping her hydrated with fluids to keep her kidneys happy! Her voice has slightly improved but improving we will take that! That will just come with time. She has her next cardiac cath next week on Tuesday. 🙏🏻 We have done bloodwork,CT, and ultrasounds in the mix and also lots of follow up appointments. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving and of course Christmas 🎄We are so thankful for all the love and support from our families, friends, and this amazing community! No big news which is always good!! I’ll try and get better about checking in.

Thanks again

Mia had her cardiac cath yesterday. She did great! All the numbers are looking better too! The only problem was after she got done then they have been worried about the fluid accumulating on her right side. They decided since she was here to take her back and give her sedation to drain the fluid off her. When the did that they didn’t get much fluid out. We ended up having to stay the night and now figure out what’s going on. We are gonna have a CT tomorrow to check her 🫁 lung. They feel maybe it’s collapsed or something along that line. Hopefully we get a CT it tells us what’s going on. I’m tired of hearing about fluid.
We will continue to update as we know.

Mia is doing good! We went up north today for a check up! Bloodwork, ekg, and echo was all good. We then went to cardiac rehab after that. She will be getting a cardiac cath Monday. They will check all her numbers and take a biopsy. They will be checking to make sure she doesn’t have any fluid around her heart and lungs. Please pray for her all is well and she can come home after. She finally gets to go to the orthodontist 🦷 tomorrow. She has broken bracket and broken wires for a while now but we couldn’t do anything about it. She is ready for that to get fixed but her mouth will be sore so I’m sure she’s not ready for that. We will be starting cardiac rehab at st Mary’s on her bday! She has to be 16 to go there and she will be 16 October 3rd! Her goal was to be home for her bday and she has done that!! As always thanks for all your prayers and support!

Mia's journey started in the womb. In May of 2007 we had an ultrasound. We were then told Mia's heart was not symmetrical with one side being smaller. Her diagnosis was hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). HLHS is a complex and rare congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart is cri...
