The Functional Medicine Pharmacists Alliance is the first association representing pharmacists in functional medicine, uniting leaders in the field to provide continuing education, business training, networking, events, and advocacy. The Functional Medicine Pharmacists Alliance (FMPhA) unites pharmacists, practitioners, patients, and organizations in our mission to integrate pharmacists into Functional Medicine, and Functional Medicine into pharmacy.

National Pharmacist Day on January 12th annually recognizes and honors all pharmacists across the nation.

The role of pharmacists has shifted over the years. Where once they served as the classical “lick, stick and pour” dispensary, they now serve as an integrated member of the health care team. Pharmacists are often directly involved in patient care and play a vital role in a patient’s health.

Historically, pharmacists primarily checked and distributed drugs to doctors for patient prescribed medication. In modern times, pharmacists advise patients and health care providers on the selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects of prescriptions. Additionally, their role includes being a learned intermediary between a prescriber and a patient. By monitoring the health and progress of patients, pharmacists can then ensure the safe and effective use of medication. (from )

As the profession continues to evolve, we see Functional Medicine as the future of pharmacy. Pharmacist can begins to integrate this modality by screening for drug-nutrient depletions, drug-supplement interactions, pharmacogenomics, and deprescribing.

LIVE CE in 2026! 🎉

We’ve been hearing from many of you that live CE is important, so for 2026 we’re doing something a little different.

This year, our official CE partner, Functional Medicine CE (), will be offering 8 hours of LIVE CE for pharmacists, delivered as 1-hour live sessions spread throughout the year.

These sessions are designed to make live CE more accessible without requiring full-day commitments.

The first live CE session will take place on January 16 and is titled SIBO Simplified.

Happy Holidays from Team FMPhA! 🎄 2025 was full of special milestones, all thanks to our amazing community. Some of the highlights include:

We trained our 50 State Leaders & added a Canada Leader to be ambassadors for the functional medicine pharmacists movement. 🗺️

We celebrated the 5th year anniversary of launching our Annual Membership. 🚀

We welcomed over 100+ pharmacists across 3 seasonal cohorts of our 10 week Functional Medicine Pharmacists Bootcamp. 🥾

We cheered on our members as they launched their practices, scaled their businesses, and found new job opportunities in functional medicine. 🙌

We held 12 monthly book club community calls, free and open to the public. 📚

And we closed out the year with 20+ pharmacists in our Winter Bootcamp Workshop. ❄️
