đ Setting Boundaries with Family This Holiday Season đ
The holidays can be a joyful time, but for many, family gatherings bring stress and anxietyâespecially if youâre navigating difficult dynamics. Setting boundaries isnât just healthyâitâs essential for your mental well-being.
Here are 5 Ways to Set Boundaries with family this season:
1ď¸âŁ Be Clear and Direct:
đŹ Example: âIâm not comfortable discussing my relationships. Letâs focus on catching up about work or hobbies instead.â
2ď¸âŁ Limit Your Time:
đ If gatherings feel overwhelming, plan an âexit strategy.â Let them know youâll only be able to stay for a few hours.
3ď¸âŁ Prepare Responses for Tough Topics:
â Have go-to phrases ready, like:
âI donât want to get into politics right now.â
âLetâs agree to disagree and enjoy the day.â
4ď¸âŁ Create a Self-Care Plan:
đ Build in time for yourself before and after family events. Recharge with activities that ground you.
5ď¸âŁ Say No Without Guilt:
â Skipping a gathering? Thatâs okay! Politely decline with:
âI wonât be able to make it this year, but I hope you all have a wonderful time.â
⨠Remember: Setting boundaries doesnât make you a bad family memberâit makes you someone who values your own mental health.
