We are so blessed to be a part of this community that is so caring & generous! An anonymous donor is going to be putting up $5 for every sandwich sold on Friday January 27th to go to help the Goertzen family with their medical bills. We will be creating an event on Facebook that can be shared but we wanted all of our followers to know about it! As you plan your week be sure to pencil in lunch at the Seed on Friday!

UPDATE: 3 LEFT!!!

Ever since our family heard about Mrs. Goertzen we have been brainstorming ways to help. Erica reached out to another local mom who makes headwraps and together they designed this amazing custom headwrap! One size fits all.

We’re heading home!

Today has been much better than yesterday, pain levels are more manageable and mom is feeling more like herself. Mom was able to get up and use crutches to walk around her room and then around the unit! The doctors are discussing discharging us tomorrow as long as everything keeps progressing well. We’re excited to be coming home hopefully but trying to be conscious of pain management as moms comfort is everyone’s top priority.

One of the amazing things about living and working in a small town is the privilege of knowing everyone and stepping up and helping out when our friends and neighbors are in need. Over the next few months, all money collected in the “extra change” bucket at the register will go to help out our dear friend Carla and her family however they may need it! Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

So far this morning mom has had some pain as the nerve blocks wore off but we’ve gotten it back under control. Then PT and OT came in and mom was able to stand up! And move to the chair using a walker! She’s very tired and hurting some now but I think feeling more like herself.
We also had a lovely lady from the prosthetics office come meet with us and give us some info which was awesome, plus she’s also an amputee so she was able to discuss the process from a point of view none of the rest of us can truly understand.

The surgeon just came out to talk to dad and I, mom is in recovery and just waking up, she’ll be awake in about an hour or two. He said everything went exactly as planned, he took a sample of the bone from above the amputation site and it’s free of cancer so he’s confident they got it all. Mom will have two weeks of healing and then begin chemo to kill any remaining cancer in the body. It’s likely that in the meantime they’ll redo her body scans to see if and where it’s spread and go from there. But long story short the surgery was safe and successful, god is good.

Mom just got taken back to pre-op/surgery, I just arrived at the hospital and met dad. They’d said something about a 1.5 hour long surgery, but I’m not sure how long she’ll be in pre and post op
