Here to help your kids grow and learn!
More Than Words offers support in:

Speech Sounds (Articulation)
We help children produce speech sounds clearly so they can be understood by others. This includes correcting sound errors and building confidence in communication.

Early Language Development
We support young children in building their vocabulary, combining words, and using language to express wants, needs, and ideas—laying the foundation for strong communication.

Literacy
We strengthen reading and writing skills by focusing on phonological awareness, decoding, comprehension, and language structure to support academic success.

Executive Function
We build skills and use tools to help with attention, memory, planning, and organization to help children stay focused, manage tasks, and thrive in school and daily routines.

I love working as a team with parents to help early communicators!

Here are some of my favorite simple strategies to create more opportunities to communicate:

🌟Wait – Pause and give your child time to respond
🌟Model – Model words and phrases without expecting immediate imitation (reduce the pressure!)
🌟Tempt – Place a favorite item just out of reach to encourage requests, create silly problems, do things that would surprise them!
🌟Ask – Use “this or that” types of questions in order to give two choices
🌟Read – Engage in books together and talk about the pictures, point to and label nouns and verbs, and see if they will fill in the blank on familiar and repetitive stories

Every child develops at their own pace, but by age 3, many can consistently say sounds like p, b, m, n, t, d, h, w, y, k, g, and f, use a variety of other sounds in words, and be understood about 75% of the time—even by unfamiliar listeners!

There’s a reason why SLPs work on the R sound so much- it’s hard!! It’s far less visible than other sounds and is extremely complex.
It also happens to be one of my favorite things to work on and I love seeing kids of all ages gain confidence as they meet their R goals!

“My child can’t say their ____ sound, do they need speech therapy?”

That’s a great question!

While this image shows the average age of sound acquisition, there are a few other factors to consider when determining whether speech therapy is recommended.

A speech evaluation will be able to help gather additional information on overall intelligibility, structure and function of the oral mechanism, sound stimulabilty, spelling/reading skills, and social impact of sound errors.
