Donor-conceived paths are more common than many realize, but they’re rarely talked about in the workplace.

For employees, these journeys can bring questions around privacy, identity, finances, and emotional well-being.

HR doesn’t need to know the details.

But understanding how to reduce stigma—and using inclusive, neutral language—can make a meaningful difference.

Most HR leaders have no idea how surrogacy actually works.

On paper, it looks simple:
Medical screening → Matching → Legal → Transfer → Pregnancy → Birth

But in reality?

There are delays.
Failed cycles.
Legal complexity.
Financial decisions at every step.
And moments where employees don’t know what to do next.

Surrogacy isn’t linear.
And it’s not something employees can navigate alone between meetings or Google searches.

Now imagine going through all of that… without guidance.

Understanding the process is important.
Supporting the journey is what actually makes the difference.

National Infertility Awareness Week (April 19–25) shines a light on the many paths to parenthood—and the experiences that often go unseen in the workplace.

For some, that path includes IVF.
For others, it leads to adoption, surrogacy, or donor-supported journeys.

At Vesta, we support employees across all family-building paths—providing guidance, clarity, and support from the very beginning.

Because no one should have to navigate this journey alone.

When family-building isn’t linear or loud, it’s often happening quietly in the background.

Behind every surrogacy journey are decisions, questions, and moments that don’t always get shared at work.

Ari & Tyla came to Vesta looking for clarity: where to start, who to trust, and how to navigate the financial side of surrogacy.

With the right guidance, they found a path forward—and welcomed their child.

Not every journey is visible.
But every journey deserves support.

Leaders aren’t responsible for solving family-building challenges — and they shouldn’t be expected to.

But the way leaders respond can either add stress or create space for employees navigating these deeply personal journeys.

Small actions can make a meaningful difference:

❌ Asking for timeline updates → ✅ Ask how you can support while respecting privacy
❌ Making assumptions about someone’s path → ✅ Use inclusive language and let employees share what they’re comfortable with
❌ Avoiding the topic altogether → ✅ Check in with empathy, not pressure
❌ Assuming IVF is the only path → ✅ Use inclusive language
❌ Treating family-building as a leave event → ✅ Recognize the emotional journey long before leave begins
❌ Focusing only on coverage → ✅ Focus on flexibility and support

Leaders don’t need to have all the answers.

But thoughtful leadership can help ensure employees feel respected, supported, and safe during one of the most personal journeys they may face.

This is what support looks like.

Seen. Safe. Together.

Women’s History Month is a reminder that careers and family-building often intersect in complex ways.

Many women navigate decisions about parenthood while managing job security, stigma, financial barriers, and invisible emotional strain.
And most of the time, those realities remain unspoken in the workplace.

Understanding these experiences is the first step toward building workplaces where every path to family is respected and supported.

📣 Calling all employees.

Many workplace benefits don’t start in the boardroom, they start with one employee asking, “Could we offer this?”

This weekend alone, six employees reached out to explore adoption and family-building benefits for their companies.

If you’re navigating adoption, surrogacy, or another family-building path and wish your workplace offered support, we can help you advocate. 🤝

Because meaningful benefits often begin with one voice.

Surrogacy is built on trust, partnership, and hope.

Behind every journey is a connection between people who believe in the same dream—bringing a family to life.
