Physician su***de is a quiet crisis in medicine — one that touches far too many families, colleagues, and communities.

We commend those in the Kansas City medical community who are working together to change that story: breaking stigma, improving access to care, and making it clear that doctors deserve support, too.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available:

Please join us in welcoming Lucinda Noches Talbert to the Kansas City Medical Society Foundation (KCMSF) team!

Lucinda joined KCMSF as the Director of Health Access in August 2025. Lucinda has more than 15 years of nonprofit work experience and has held various roles in programs, fund development and operations at Pharmacy of Grace, KC Healthy Kids, and the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center.

“As a resident of Wyandotte County with more than a decade of experience working for two different Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), I can say that the entirety of my career and volunteer work stems from my core belief that everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background—deserves quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare,” says Lucinda.

“Lucinda’s knowledge and background in program management, staff supervision, and cultivating partnerships with collaborating organizations are an asset to the KCMSF team,” says Karole Bradford, CEO. “I am excited to see our Wy JO Care and Metro Care programs continue to grow under her leadership,” Karole adds.

Kansas is falling behind. We are one of only ten states that hasn't yet expanded Medicaid and still have a health care coverage gap.

What is the coverage gap? It means you can't get Medicaid because you make "too much" (or don't have a dependent child at home), but you can't get financial help on the ACA Marketplace because you make "too little."

Keeping Kansans uninsured isn't good for our neighbors, and it isn't good for the health of our state.

What questions do you have about the coverage gap in Kansas?

Shifting Ground: Understanding Change, Inspiring Action

Last week, Kansas City Medical Society Foundation and Jackson County Public Health presented the results of the healthcare access gap analysis conducted in Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties in Missouri.

This study was conducted to answer the question, “In a post-COVID, post-Medicaid expansion healthcare environment, who doesn’t get what type of care, and why?”

This report will drive our program development and community engagement. We hope that it can be similarly useful for our partners and collaborators.

You can read what we learned by visiting our website and clicking on the button to download the full report.
