We do not become healers.
We came as healers. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become storytellers.
We came as carriers of the stories
we and our ancestors actually lived. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become writers, dancers, musicians, helpers, peacemakers. We came as such. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not learn to love in this sense. We came as Love. We are Love. Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are.

For the month of December, we’re highlighting the Top 8 Blogs of 2023. Today, we’re revisiting some words on sad songs and the safe space that is music. We invite you to read “Sad Songs Make Me Less Sad” by Stephen Kellogg at https://wrt.lv/43ec4BG.

A big thank you to all of our courageous and wonderful contributors. You all play a big part in letting people know that they are not alone, hope is real, help is out there, and healing is possible.

"-avoiding our own feelings
-apologizing for our needs
-deflecting compliments
-not giving ourselves any credit
-sacrificing our voices to keep others comfortable
-giving when we're running on empty
-making big life decisions to please other people
-saying things to ourselves that are hurtful
-pretending that something is fine when it just isn't
-showing up for those who won't show up for us
-not making time for our mental health
-using self-deprecating humor as an outlet for self-hatred"
