In this clip, Mark talks about the weight that comes with the position he holds. The decisions, the pressure, the responsibility that impacts people’s lives. His perspective was simple. Everything that comes with the role, he gives it back to God. Because he knows there’s no way to carry that kind of weight alone.

When The Popper sat down on Let’s Talk Shop KC Podcast, the story behind his name had everybody leaning in. What makes it even more interesting is that his background doesn’t fit the stereotype people expect. He went to Catholic school, carries himself a certain way, and speaks with a level of structure that catches people off guard.

But Kansas City has always produced individuals who don’t fit the box. Long before the world knew the name Tech N9ne, his first producer IcyRoc Kravyn was working at Seventh Heaven right here in KC while helping shape a sound that would eventually travel worldwide.

That’s the thread. Authenticity.

Hip hop sometimes tries to tell you how to look, talk, and move. But the people who leave a mark are the ones who stay comfortable being themselves. The Popper is another example of that KC energy. Unique. Unapologetic. And memorable because he never tried to become someone else.

When Karis Harrington joined Let’s Talk Shop KC Podcast, we unpacked something real. Too often we let culture, algorithms, and opinions define beauty for us. But beauty was never meant to be graded by shade charts or social trends. God is the true source of it.

Whether you identify as white, Black, brown, biracial, or anything in between, your value is not determined by society’s lens. Self love starts when we reject comparison. Self care deepens when we understand that our identity is rooted in purpose, not perception.

The more we emphasize what connects us instead of what divides us, the stronger our communities become. Unity is intentional. Division is easy.

Let’s continue building bridges through KC G.I.F.T. and Let’s Talk Shop KC Podcast. If you’re serious about collaboration, economic empowerment, and conversations that move culture forward, tap in.

Deona HuSTLe did not “end up” in Kansas City. She chose it. She was intentional about creating a new lane and building space where she could thrive. That is strategy.

Then one invitation to a student led campus radio show changed everything. She did not know it would spark a lifelong love for media. That is obedience.

And through it all, she stays grounded. She knows when to call home. She knows her mom is a prayer warrior covering her in ways she cannot see. That is foundation.

Faith. Intention. Preparation. Positioning.

Shout out to Deona HuSTLe for dropping gems in Carter Broadcast Group with Hot 103.3 Jamz. Let’s keep exposing students to real stories that shift perspective.

Your wreck might be your setup.

I sat down with Craig Donnell Jr. from Intentional Living and this one hit different. He told his wife he wanted to buy a car by spring 2025, but even while saying it, he admitted it did not feel possible. Leaving church in February and he was in a wreck. By March, he was buying his wife a new car.

Proverbs 18:21 says life and death are in the power of the tongue. What you speak over your situation matters. Mark 11:23 reminds us that what we say and believe in our heart carries weight. Romans 8:28 makes it plain that God works all things together for good for those who love Him.

Sometimes what looks like loss is leverage. Sometimes what feels like disruption is divine direction.

Watch your mouth. Speak life. Trust God.

Petey McGee grew up without affection from his mom. The only time he ever touched her was when he found her body. That truth still shapes his life today.

You cannot heal what you do not reveal.

“Woogie” just violated my hairline on my own podcast 😭😂

When I asked Gerald “Hubie” Huston what sets him apart from other comedians, he said it’s his distinctive look, his nickname “Woogie,” and the fact he’s funnier than all his friends.

Then he talked about being a childhood actor, he played Stevie Wonder in a play at church…
Which somehow turned into him roasting how big my hairline is 😭

Bro turned a serious podcast question into a full comedy sketch.

This is why Woogie is different.
This episode had me crying laughing and reminded me that humor always wins.

Kansas City, do you see why Hubie aka Woogie is one of one 😂

Sometimes the scariest thing isn’t the dream, it’s saying it out loud. In this moment, DaJah Marie spoke life into her future without flinching.

When I asked her who was hyping her up when the vision felt bleak, short answer, HER! she answered with clarity and faith. The foundation of this show is rooted in Christ and the Bible reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Speak life over your future, your circumstances, and let God do the rest.

When I asked whether Kansas City truly supports not just short films like State Line but the film industry as a whole the response was real. The talent is here. The actors are here. The stories are here. What’s missing is people willing to take the chance and invest.

Cities don’t get in the industry by waiting. They get there when someone believes enough to put skin in the game. The question is are we ready to bet on our own.

Many people of color grow up learning how to navigate spaces where perception can outweigh reality. From being coached on how to speak, move, or respond, to feeling pressure to overcompensate with politeness just to ease someone else’s discomfort, this isn’t theory it’s lived experience.

This conversation opens the door to an honest discussion about bias, survival, and what it means to move through the world carrying identities that are often misunderstood.

God doesn’t always prepare you for the position first sometimes He throws you into the fire to reveal who you are

When I asked The Popper about his purpose, he shared how his dad always said, “I just want to make it to heaven.” After sitting with that, he realized his own purpose wasn’t far off. Now I’m throwing it to you. What do you believe your purpose really is?
