It's a beautiful day for a VBAC Story! Meet Victoria, about her birth she writes:

"I was terrified with my first birth. I lacked proper support and education, so when my labor started I panicked. The fear intensified the pain of every contraction. After over 30 hours in labor, a cascade of interventions, and never dilating past 4 cm, my first daughter was born via c-section. It took a lot of time to heal from the trauma of that day. My second birth gave me hope and I was motivated to do things differently. Despite an early Placenta Previa diagnosis (that later resolved), Gestational Diabetes, a GBS+ test, I was determined not to let anything get in the way of a positive birth experience this time around. I sought out a VBAC supportive provider and hospital, even though that meant picking a hospital over an hour away and laboring in a nearby hotel. I prepared myself mentally and physically for the day labor began. A change in mindset goes a long way; this time with every contraction I felt power, not pain. I got to the hospital 7 cm dilated and while my labor stalled again in a hospital setting, I was ultimately able to have the most redemptive VBAC.

Victoria's experience the second time around motivated her to move into birth work and she is now training to be a Certified Birth Doula. She looks forward to eventually becoming a Certified Advanced VBAC Doula with Julie and Meagan's training program. Follow her journey "

TBH, most doulas are not pro or anti csection, induction, cervical checks, Pitocin or epidural.

But many of us have experienced too many unnecessary C-sections for failure to progress aka if you in this hospital you gone exhaust our options for induction or augmentation then we are throwing in the towel. Even if mom and baby both are healthy and safe. As doulas, we too often see the effects from Pitocin and epidurals, including babies suddenly in distress. We see providers check cervix and not pull out when moms say stop or ask to check 2-3 times at once or every 2 hours—- increasing risk for infection, which leads to other possible intervention needs from a problem they created. As doulas, we see how epidurals can limit movement, effect baby indirectly and sometimes effect mom. We see moms often make decisions out of unnecessary fear and coercion and their NO be treated as not an acceptable response.

We as doulas are not ANTI anything expect force ! We are 100% PRO INFORMED DECISION MAKING, and sometimes that means refusing until you know enough and feel comfortable enough before you say yes or sticking to your no because that is what you felt was best for you and your baby. Saying yes when you are unsure is NOT INFORMED DECISION MAKING!

We as doulas support in all these situations BUT we are not fixers. We cannot save you when it goes left after you’ve consented to all these interventions unnecessarily and the last resort is csection. We will support your decisions and do our best to educate you. Please make informed decisions not decisions based on fear or anxiety or even excitement. It’s perfect if when it works, but what do you do when it doesn’t?!

So many people often doubt themselves and if they need a doula. If you can’t answer the next five questions WITHOUT HELP, then I would highly suggest getting a doula!!!!

Question 1: The doctor wants to do a cervical “check,” what are they “checking” for?

Question 2: You are being induced for non medical reason and the doctor wants to break your water. What are reasons this might not be a good idea?

Question 3: What are different pain management options BESIDES an epidural?

Question 4: Your doctor says you have one high blood pressure or baby is measuring smaller and wants to induce you, what’s your response?

Question 5: Everyone knows how to help when things are going well, does anyone in the room know what to do if things are going wrong or if your providers are being pushy, using fear tactics and just not listening to you?

If you got one or more of these questions WRONG, PLEASE LISTEN AND HIRE A DOULA! There’s too much knowledge and measures to remember when you are in your most vulnerable state! Don’t do it alone or doing it walking in thinking these hospitals and their policies are your friend because they are only nice until you say NO! If cost is an issue, inbox me for resources on how to obtain with no cost to you!

Praise Report:

I’ve been reading lately the stories of LEADERSHIP in the Bible. And the faith that allowed Men to walk in their Godly purpose. Even when they were criticized, doubted, and questioned, they continued to have faith and to lead.

Every day I’ve have been questioning my own self of my purpose. But tonight I had a conversation about how I never in a million years expected community to value me as they do. I do my best to take care of those around me and sometimes I’ve questioned was I good enough? Then I’m empowered. I’m empowered EVERY TIME someone else tells me, they did you wrong so I let go. And to see each of these persons feel freedom and peace and opportunity to soar. To see their businesses open and their dreams chased. To see them choose INTEGRITY and LOVE over MONEY. I came home and I showered and I broke down crying.

To know this task is greater than myself. To know I’m no queen, BUT A DANE. A SERVANT. A MAIDEN. I serve a greater purpose, and my GOD! Though challenging, my faith greater than that mustard seed is MOVING MOUNTAINS BECAUSE I BELIEVED I COULD. This mission is GODLY.

I’ve been challenged, I’ve been talked about, my name being dragged thru the mud, and when I thought I had to fight? I’ve been shown how HE swings harder! My needs met. And best of all, I’ve been surrounded by so much love community empowerment and WOMEN OF GOD that NOT ONE NAYSAYER SHALL EVEN BE NAMED BECAUSE THIS IS MOVE IS PERSONAL AND THEY CANT GO WHERE WE ARE GOING!

“Look at the stats that can be achieved with perinatal care that supports physiologic birth. And vaginal breech! Kudos to Dr. Hartung for supporting the choice to birth breech. Dr. Hartung will be co-teaching with Breech Without Borders Kristine Lauria in Philly. Ask your providers to get trained!”
