Menopause doesn’t ask for permission.
It just shows up and everything changes.

One day you’re holding it all together.
The next? You feel like a stranger in your own body.

You’re tired, but you can’t sleep.
You’re wired, but you have no energy.
You’re emotional, but also numb.
You cry. You snap. You stare into space. You wonder if you’re losing it.

And through it all, you keep showing up.
For work. For family. For friends.
You keep pretending you're okay because that’s what women do.

But inside, there’s a war happening.
Your hormones are shifting.
Your nervous system is screaming.
Your metabolism has slowed. Your joints ache. Your skin is changing.
Your everything is changing.

And yet, you’re still expected to carry on like nothing’s happening.

Let’s be clear:
This isn’t weakness.
This is overload.

Your body is done running on empty.
Done ignoring the stress.
Done with the years of pushing yourself to the bottom of the list.

This is not the end of you.
It’s the beginning of a different you.

Because menopause is not the moment we break.
It’s the moment we finally wake up and say:

Let’s talk about what’s really happening to women during menopause.

Yes, divorce rates rise.
But something even more heartbreaking does too:
Su***de rates.

Women in their 40s and 50s in the perimenopause and menopause years are experiencing higher rates of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and emotional disconnection. And too many suffer in silence.

We need to stop pretending this is just “aging” or “normal mood swings.”
We need to stop dismissing women with, “You’ll get through it.”

Because for many, it doesn’t feel survivable.
And that breaks my heart.

🧬 Hormones are powerful. When they shift especially progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol everything can feel off:

Deep, unpredictable sadness.

Panic or anxiety for no reason.

Feeling invisible or detached.

Sleep loss that triggers emotional collapse.

A loss of interest in life, love, or purpose.

Emotional overwhelm that doesn’t match the moment.

If you’ve felt any of this you are not weak. You are not crazy.
You are in a hormonally intense, neurochemical storm. And there is help.

As a hormone-focused provider, I want you to hear this:

🩺 There are real, testable, treatable reasons for what you’re feeling.
You don’t have to wait until things fall apart or until you do.

To the women who feel like they’re disappearing: I see you.
To the husbands, daughters, and friends: Ask the deeper questions. Stay present. Offer safety and support.

✨ This stage of life is not the end. It’s a transition.
And with the right care it can be the beginning of healing, strength, and renewal.

Please don’t wait. Please don’t give up.
Your life is still yours to liveand we want to help you reclaim it.

Here’s why wrapping your arms around a tree might be exactly what your nervous system needs today:

🍃 Lowers stress ✔️Being close to trees reduces cortisol (your stress hormone).
🌳 Boosts mood ✔️ Trees literally release compounds (called phytoncides) that increase serotonin levels in your brain.⬅️⬅️⬅️
🧠 Improves focus + clarity ✔️ Time in nature, especially near trees, has been shown to improve attention and reduce mental fatigue.
💓 Regulates your nervous system ✔️Physical contact with a tree = grounding. Like a natural reset button.
🌿 You feel connected again✔️ Sometimes the quiet, solid presence of a tree is more healing than 10 noisy conversations.

And the best part?
Trees don’t judge.
They just stand strong and hold space.
Kind of like a really good friend.

So next time you see a tree that calls to you go ahead and give it a squeeze. You might be surprised at how much better you feel. 🌞

No shame in hugging your leafy bestie.
Your nervous system will thank you.

Ladies, let’s talk about testosterone.
Yes we have it too. And it matters a lot more than most people realize.

Testosterone isn’t just a “male hormone.” In women, it supports brain function, mood, bones, muscle, and libido. When levels drop (which they often do with stress, age, or hormone shifts), you feel it.

Here’s what the research tells us:

🧠 Brain Fog & Focus:
Low testosterone can impact mental clarity, memory, and sharp thinking especially during perimenopause and beyond.
📚 Front Neurosci, 2020

😞 Mood & Motivation:
Irritability, low motivation, or feeling emotionally flat? It might not be “just life” it might be low testosterone.
📚 J Clin Endocrinol Metab, 2004

💤 Fatigue:
That bone-deep tiredness that no amount of sleep fixes? Hormones like testosterone could be involved.

❤️ Libido & Sexual Health:
Testosterone is key to sexual desire and responsiveness in women. Low levels can reduce intimacy and connection.
📚 J Clin Endocrinol Metab, 2004

💪 Muscle & Metabolism:
This hormone helps maintain lean body mass and strength. Losing tone or gaining fat despite exercise and eating well? Check your hormones.
📚 N Engl J Med, 1996

🦴 Bone Density:
Testosterone works with estrogen to protect your bones. Low levels may silently increase your risk of osteopenia or fractures.
📚 J Clin Endocrinol Metab, 1998

Here’s the truth:
If you’re feeling off mentally, emotionally, or physically you’re not crazy and you’re not alone.
Your hormones may be whispering, asking for help. And testosterone is one of the most overlooked pieces of the puzzle for women.

Let’s keep having these conversations. You deserve answers, not assumptions.

Why Can’t I Sleep Anymore?

You used to sleep just fine. Now? You're awake at 2 a.m., again.
Maybe it’s stress. Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s hormones.

💡 Here’s what we know as functional hormone specialists:
Sleep disruption is often the very first sign that something is shifting beneath the surface especially in women entering perimenopause.

Before you blame your busy mind or another cup of coffee, let’s talk biology.

👇 Here’s what we look at when sleep goes sideways:

🧠 Cortisol — Elevated evening cortisol (your stress hormone) is one of the most common sleep disruptors.
🌙 Progesterone — This calming hormone promotes deep sleep. It starts to decline in your 30s and 40s—often before your periods change.
🔥 Estrogen — Supports temperature regulation, serotonin, and mood. Fluctuations can cause night sweats and insomnia.
💤 Melatonin — The sleep hormone, often affected by stress, inflammation, and light exposure.
🦋 Thyroid Hormones — If your thyroid is sluggish or overactive, sleep suffers.
⚖️ Insulin & Blood Sugar — Unstable blood sugar can cause 2-4 a.m. wakeups.
💪 DHEA & Testosterone — Vital for energy, repair, and sleep quality.

This is why women say:
“I haven’t slept in years and I’ve just learned to live with it.”

But sleep isn't a luxury. It’s a foundational hormone regulator. Without it, your body stays in survival mode, and menopause becomes harder than it has to be.

✨ The solution?
Not another sleep aid. Not just melatonin.
But real answers rooted in labs, lifestyle, and hormone balance.

At Bloom La Vie Health, we don’t guess.
We listen. We test. We look beneath the surface.
And we help you restore what’s been quietly slipping away.

Because sleep isn't just rest.
It's repair for your brain, your heart, your hormones, and your life.

💔The highest su***de rate among women is in the 45–54 age group, according to the CDC and various global health agencies.

This age range directly overlaps with perimenopause and early menopause, a time of intense hormonal fluctuations, emotional dysregulation, loss of sleep, and identity shifts.

Women may feel overwhelmed, invisible, unworthy, or emotionally unrecognizable during this time and are often misdiagnosed with depression instead of being tested for hormone imbalances.

Add life pressures like aging parents, teenage children, marital strain, and career burnout and it’s a recipe for emotional collapse.

🩺 This is why functional and hormone-aware care is crucial.
When women are told “you’re fine,” or “this is normal,” it invalidates real, measurable internal changes often driven by shifting levels of progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, DHEA, thyroid hormones, and cortisol.

📊 Confirmed by Research:

1. CDC WISQARS Data (2021):
Su***de rates for U.S. women peak in the 45–54 age group.

> Source: CDC Su***de Mortality Data
(Search under age and gender statistics.)

2. Study in Menopause Journal (2018):
Perimenopausal women were more likely to report suicidal ideation, especially those with a history of depression.

> Freeman, E. W. et al., Menopause, 2018.
“Perimenopause is a vulnerable time for mood disturbances and suicidal thoughts.”

3. National Institutes of Health (NIH):
Hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause can lead to mood instability, depression, and increased su***de risk, particularly when compounded by sleep disturbances and psychosocial stress.

NIH: “Menopause and Depression” (2020)

4. Psychiatric Clinics of North America (2019):
Recognizes midlife, especially perimenopause, as a critical window for depression and su***de prevention in women.

Let’s Talk About the Truth Behind Midlife and Marriage.
Yes divorce rates do rise during perimenopause and menopause.
And no it doesn’t have to be that way.

As a hormone specialist, I’ve seen the same story play out too many times:

A woman starts to feel irritable, flat, disconnected from herself and others.

Sleep disappears. Libido vanishes. Anxiety creeps in. Brain fog sets in.

Her partner thinks she’s "changed."

She starts to feel broken, invisible, or like she's losing control.

This is not a personal failure. It’s a biological transition.
And without the right support, it can dismantle a life piece by piece.

🧬 Perimenopause and menopause are hormonally intense seasons that affect every system in the body:
• Mood
• Sleep
• Emotional regulation
• Intimacy
• Energy
• Motivation
• Connection

What’s heartbreaking is that so many women don’t know this is what’s happening.
And their partners don’t either.

💡 Here’s what we want every couple to know:
If things feel like they’re falling apart, check the hormones before you check out of the relationship.

You may not need a divorce.
You may need help, answers, and hormonal support.

Testosterone. Progesterone. Estrogen. Cortisol. Thyroid. DHEA.
They all play a role. And when we assess and balance them, women return to themselves and couples reconnect.

✨ If you’re in this season: You are not crazy. You are not alone. And you are not out of options.

Functional medicine understands the whole picture.
Let’s stop normalizing the unraveling of women’s lives and start supporting them through this critical transition.

Why I am Bloom(ing)

Hi! I’m Christine Iway Nedeau, MD, the founder of Bloom La Vie Health. I am a board-certified family physician and have been in practice since 2002.

After residency training, I was gung-ho about being the kind of doctor my parents were in my hometown, Elkhart, KS, while I was growing up. You know, the type of doctor who knows you and your medical history by heart and enjoys visitin’. My parents knew who baked the best apple pie, who got married (or divorced), and who struggled with their sleep. Still, more importantly, they knew how each person’s health was affected by the rest of life- stress, finances, relationships, sleep, and nutrition.

My parents knew that good care starts with really knowing the people you care for. Sounds pretty simple, but “getting to know” someone takes time and with a shortage of primary care physicians, high demand for care, ballooning patient panels, and many insurance-related hurdles to jump, there is no time for visitin’ anymore. The bond between the patient and physician suffered.

Consider these statistics: the average primary care patient panel is between 2500-4000; a person waits an average of 24-32 days to be seen in a primary care office, 90% of the $3.5 Trillion annual US healthcare costs are from those with preventable chronic disease; 40% of all physicians report some level of burn-out (highest numbers in female primary care specialists).
