The 2024 Children’s Services Assessment highlighted persistent barriers Jackson County kids and families face that affect their access to mental health services.

Factors such as transportation limitations, eligibility criteria and fragmented coordination were consistently identified as challenges that impact how children and families connect to services.

This information is critical for us as we work to shape funding strategies focused on reducing systemic barriers and improving equitable access for every child in Jackson County.

The barriers are real. But we’re committed to keep breaking them down until every child in Jackson County has access to the mental health support they deserve.

Caring for others, whether as a provider, educator, or parent, takes time, energy, and deep emotional labor. But your well-being matters, too.

Self-care isn’t selfish. It's a reflection of your value as a person, not just as a caregiver. You deserve the same care and support you work so hard to give to others.

During National Self-Care Awareness Month, the Children’s Services Fund recognizes the many individuals across Jackson County who carry this work every day. Thank you. You matter, on every level.

The Children’s Services Assessment highlighted a consistent challenge: Workforce capacity issues are making it difficult for Jackson County’s mental health system to support kids and families.

Many providers in Jackson County report staffing shortages and reduced capacity for cross-sector collaboration. Time and resources for coordination are often minimal, which can limit access, continuity, and efficiency across the system of care.

The Children’s Service Fund is using these findings to guide future investment strategies, supporting approaches that improve provider sustainability and strengthen coordination infrastructure.

Better alignment across the system helps make services more accessible, consistent and responsive to the needs of children and families.

Arts education is more than creative enrichment. It helps young people stay grounded, connected and well.

For many students, creative outlets like music, theater, visual arts and dance offer more than skill-building. They support mental health, build confidence and create space for self-expression.

The CSF is grateful for the educators and organizations in Jackson County who utilize the arts in their work with youth. Your efforts are helping shape healthier, more supported futures.

The system of care is under pressure.

Findings from the 2024 Children’s Services Assessment confirmed that many providers across Jackson County are operating at or beyond capacity. Long waitlists, staffing shortages, and increasing demand are limiting access to care, particularly for children and youth.

The CSF is using this data to guide future investment. That includes exploring strategies that support workforce retention, strengthen provider infrastructure and improve access across the system.

Throughout September, we’ll share more insights from the Assessment and how they inform where we go next as we continue our mission to support Jackson County kids.

The needs of Jackson County kids are shifting. And we’re paying attention.

Findings from the Children’s Services Assessment reveal that many kids in our community are experiencing compromised well-being, with factors like poverty, stress and mental health challenges intersecting in ways that make life harder.

This data doesn’t just confirm what many already see. It gives us powerful shared language and sharper focus as we work to better serve families. We’re using it to help shape strategy, clarify priorities and invest in the 10 core service areas we know matter most.

Because well-being isn’t one thing. It’s everything. And every child deserves the chance to thrive.
