"STAY HOME! STAY HOME! STAY HOME!" - that is the message our 911 dispatch supervisor just asked us to push out. She is a 30-year veteran and she says, "I have never had a day like this - it hasn't stopped all day." Folks I know those roads don't look bad - we wish they did, because maybe then you'd stay home or at the least, slow way the heck down. We have had over 100 accidents that Officers have responded to since midnight. Highways are especially dangerous because they don't have any of that crunchy snow that gives traction and salting the streets in single digits just doesn't cut through that black ice. Right now, at 6 PM, we are working 11 accidents. Please stay home and if you absolutely cannot, slow down - and then slow down even more.
