Strengthening Behavioral Health Support for Children:

We are sharing this NASDDS & Link Center resource because improving access to coordinated, high-quality behavioral health services for children—especially those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)—is a critical priority for states, providers, and families.

CMS recently released a new State Medicaid & CHIP Toolkit for Children’s Behavioral Health Services highlighting the importance of improving access to quality behavioral health care for children and youth.

A key message: children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) must have equitable access to behavioral health services.

The toolkit (https://thelinkcenter.org/) encourages states to:
• Promote early identification and intervention
• Improve care coordination and service integration
• Expand workforce capacity
• Use Medicaid tools like HCBS waivers and State Plan options to provide wraparound supports

Strong, coordinated systems of care help ensure children with complex needs can thrive in their homes and communities. Let's clap our hands in agreement!
