🎉 Exciting News from UMKC Family Medicine! 🎉

Our very own Dr. J. Lane Wilson, MD, FAAFP, Program Director at UMKC Family Medicine, is published in the latest issue of American Family Physician! 📖

His article, “Foreign Bodies in the Ear, Nose, and Throat,” offers practical tips for safely handling one of the most common (and sometimes surprising!) reasons children — and even adults — visit the doctor. From beads in ears 👂 to coins in noses 👃, Dr. Wilson explains when it’s safe to remove them in the office and when to refer.

We’re proud to see Dr. Wilson’s expertise shared with family physicians across the country! 🩺💙

We took a field trip to Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville during orientation to show all of the interns where the rural track is hosted. We had a great day meeting with hospital staff, touring the hospital and community, and learning more about the impact the RTP will have on rural NW Missouri!

We’re thrilled to share that UMKC Family Medicine Residency Director Dr. J. Lane Wilson and East Carolina University Family Medicine Residency Director Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber have co-edited the upcoming September 2025 dermatology-focused issue of Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice!

Their preface, titled “Time for Your Skin (Diagnostic Ability) Check,” tackles a common refrain in family medicine: “I’m terrible at derm.” This practical and empowering message challenges that belief and offers a roadmap for clinicians to build confidence and competence in dermatologic diagnosis.
