Well, you know what our PD was up to during retreat but we figured it was time to share what fun we were having! Our retreat this year began at Chicken and Pickle with some friendly games, included a tour of Kauffman Stadium, and ended the night at Chief Dauma’s house playing Resident Jeopardy. We’re so thankful for dedicated time to spend with each other!

Our Program Director, Dr. Lane Wilson, co-edited the most recent volume of Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice with East Carolina University’s Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber. Each quarterly issue focuses on a single topic in primary care. This quarter’s volume is on dermatology and features 14 chapters ranging from dermatologic conditions in pregnancy, neonates, children, and adults. Dr. Wilson authored the Benign Skin Tumors article and co-authored articles Neonatal Dermatology and Disorders of Pigmentation. Faculty member Dr. Bridgid Wilson and PGY-3 resident Dr. Kirsten Daniel co-authored the Dermatologic Conditions of Pregnancy article. As he advises readers in the preface, the only thing stopping you at being good at recognizing skin conditions is you!

🎉 Exciting News from UMKC Family Medicine! 🎉

Our very own Dr. J. Lane Wilson, MD, FAAFP, Program Director at UMKC Family Medicine, is published in the latest issue of American Family Physician! 📖

His article, “Foreign Bodies in the Ear, Nose, and Throat,” offers practical tips for safely handling one of the most common (and sometimes surprising!) reasons children — and even adults — visit the doctor. From beads in ears 👂 to coins in noses 👃, Dr. Wilson explains when it’s safe to remove them in the office and when to refer.

We’re proud to see Dr. Wilson’s expertise shared with family physicians across the country! 🩺💙

📄 Read the full article here: Foreign Bodies in the Ear, Nose, and Throat (aafp.org)

We took a field trip to Mosaic Medical Center - Maryville during orientation to show all of the interns where the rural track is hosted. We had a great day meeting with hospital staff, touring the hospital and community, and learning more about the impact the RTP will have on rural NW Missouri!
